  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The idiocy continues

School officials in Lansing, N.Y., have halted an abstinence-based sex ed program because the focus on marriage was considered insensitive to kids from non-traditional families.
The Lansing Board of Education also has stopped using the Ithaca Pregnancy Center’s "I’m Worth Waiting For" program at its middle school because the group’s Christian affiliation was deemed inappropriate in a public school.

Apparently, what upset many parents was the way its message was wrapped around the pregnancy center's basic tenet of waiting for marriage

As a U.S. public school teacher, I am not surprised.

The dominant culture among U.S. teachers is left of center. This is perpetuated in the schools of education in the university archipelago.

That's where conservatives (of whatever stripe) learn the value of silence.

It's all about sensitivity, don't you know.

I posted this in another thread but I think it applies here as well:

Our age is a time of subversion, dishonesty, distraction, division, fear, seduction and temptation. Indeed, there are man-made philosophies that connect the dots to all of these vices; two are called secular humanism and modernism. Nevertheless, we must recognize the spiritual element. So, when someone seeks to substitute your Christian values for those that they claim are more non-partisan, more apolitical, more inclusive, more tolerant, we must ask whose values are being imposed on us. Whose interests do these values serve? Do these values promote virtue or vice? Remember that the world of values is not a world within a vacuum. When one value is removed from service, another contrary value has an opening to step into its place.

Q: How many liberals does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Three hundred and thirty-two. One to change the bulb, 56 to wring their hands and moan about who might be offended that the bulb was changed, 11 to actually be offended because the bulb was changed, 9 to contact the ACLU and lodge suit because the bulb was changed, 73 to form public-action committees to demand that no more bulbs be changed, 106 to picket the light bulb manufacturers with signs claiming that the previous bulb was a victim, 1 to make fantastically inaccurate movies about the facts behind the light bulb being changed, 25 to go on radio talk shows and hint at dire consequenses because of the light bulb being changed, 34 to loudly threaten that they will leave the country if another light bulb is changed, and 16 to go on interviews on CNN and claim that it was George Bush's fault that the first light bulb burned out to begin with.

And we wonder why our children do not know these things anymore?

You have many times the very same people running around saying that we need to keep our children in line and to help them, but then you give them something to help them and you take it away....

We wonder why teens keep getting pregnant, we wonder why teens keep thinking that sex before marriage is Ok...

We wonder why a great deal of them have less and less respect for others, when they cannot respect themselves

Then I love the parents that say, "What are they teaching my kid in school nothing?" when in fact they are the ones that are continually taking the control of the curriculum away from the teachers. Or, the ones that say, " I should be teaching these things at home to my child" and yet never do fully teach them. Their idea of teaching is you have to listen to me and I say don't do it.... Never realizing that their children are growing up and that later on in life they will be encountered with the very same thing and will not know how to address it properly with their children because they were not properly taught by their parents. Not all problems are solved by brushing them aside.

And quite frankly this whole thing of just because they are associated with this organization or that, when it is the message that is important is starting to grate my nerves. I could see if it was some Satanic cult or something that was backing it but really now come on!!!! Just because a Christian organization backs something does not mean that they are going to bring religion into the classroom. And until such a thing was done they should have left it alone. I could see if some of those that were against such a thing found out that it had been done then made it into an issue but really.....

Then later on the same page it is quoted
A columnist reports that a hospital in that Minneapolis city has removed the cross from its onsite chapel lest it offend any non-Christians who amble into the room.

Regions Hospital has removed the cross from its chapel and placed it in the adjacent chaplain's office so no one will see it. Hospital spokesman Vince Rivard says they did it because the hospital doesn’t have a "religious affiliation" and doesn’t want to show favoritism.

Apparently, he says, it’s a growing trend in the hospital industry.

Why would I go into a chapel to pray without a cross being present?????
And if I have a loved one that is sick, and I want to pray, why should I have to go outside of the facility to do so properly? Now this is beyond ridiculous....

So that they are not offended if they happen to WANDER in there in advertently????? Are you kidding me????

You mean to tell me that if they wander in there inadvertently and find out that it is the chapel they would be so offended that they would have to make a serious enough complaint that it would effect the many that would be in need of being there for their use?!?! that they are so very selfish that they have to tear down anything and everything we have to give us some solace? That they cannot respect the fact that something has been set aside for those that do pray for their loved ones or those in the hospital that can get out of their beds and go to the chapel to pray????? that is that offensive to them....

That is hogwash. There is no real and valid enough reason for this. Please give me a break... And since when do we cave into the unbelievers demands before the Lord's anyway? Surely on some of these commities that run these hospitals there have to be some people that understand this.....

Just my $.02 for the day

Pathetic on their parts. Okay, so it's less pathetic to encourage teens to start doing it at sixteen and hence increasing the risk of out-of-wedlock pregnancy? Puh-leeze!

Remember now we are to do unto to others as we would have them do unto us and then we have to turn the other cheek because Remember Christians are just expected to do this....

So it matters not what they do to us only what we do to them.....

umm there are times I wish we still had the sarcasm smilie......

I meant that with sarcasm.... a tinge anyway....

Yes we are supposed to do all of those things but up until a point.
As far as turning the other cheek is concerned, yes I am all for it but not when I am becoming a punching bag.... And YES I agree we should be out there advocating for what is right and standing firm for our beliefs, then is when I do not have a problem with being a punching bag at all...

But, I do have a problem with being someone's personal punching bag simply because I am Christian.... That is bigotry. I have heard some of the excuses used on this board that have ranged from well because Christians take up most of the population worldwide then they should not have a problem with a little abuse... To well if you are going to get in my face for who I am then I am going to get back in yours twice as hard for who you are... and nowhere have I gotten into anyones face about who they are... But if you come to a Christian posting board and begin to post what kind of responses to think you are going to get from a Christian, Atheistic ones? Do you seriously think I am going to agree with you?

But people have a warped way of thinking and think that they have the right to do these things..... I have even had one Atheist tell me that if they had their way they would turn this whole board into an Atheist board the way it should be.... I mean they think that they because they are in the minority are in this huge battle with us, that they must somehow take over or they will have lost.... that is the mentality of some of them....

It is hard after awhile to continually turn the other cheek and contually get punched back and forth.... somewhere you have to say enough and stand up and say no more.... And truthfully I think that sometimes that is the most charitable thing we can do at that point. Christian Love and Charity does not always mean that we have to take abuse or run the other way from what we are confronted with, it simply means that we need be discerning in how we choose our battles...
