  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why include God? Don't we have to use more physical elements?

Including holding the parables of the Father as literal history, isn't that wonderful?
QV please:
In my opinion, the parables that Jesus told are true stories --- things He witnessed in His lifetime.
Jesus' parables were true stories of actual events that He witnessed Himself.
Who said Jesus' parables were not actual incidents He witnessed growing up?
I am not denying Jesus spoke in parables -- I am saying the parables are real, not fictitious.

Presumably you think Jesus didn't have much of an imagination, AV1611VET, or maybe you assume his mind was as literal as yours.
I think the parables were real events.

Yes, most of us view religion, especially fundamentalist and literalist religion, as very limiting and, frankly, plain dull in comparison to reality.

Case in point.

So in non-fundamentalist, non-literalist religion, the creation of bread ("The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.") is how yeast evolved into a woman?

You're struggling with this non-literalist business aren't you, Greg.

So the labs are on earth. As I thought. Thanks for that. That is about like sitting in front of a plasma TV and imagining the plasma in the far universe works the same way. Ho hum.

Most people do depend on reality to work the same, no matter what the distance is. Either walking or by spaceship, the destination seems to operate by the same rules of physics in both places. You are not required to believe that. I only have my own experiences to work from. A friend of mine walked a different path in the 70's than I did, so I know we aren't all on the same page.

Jesus grew up on the streets of the hood and so had exposure to a lot of life. That's setting aside any possible special knowledge about mankind.

What goof would claim to BE the truth of all mankind, then make up little stories about seeds and rocks and such?

LOL

No. Jesus claimed that he was personifying the ideal of Truth in the same way Rev Martin Luther Kingd id.

Even now, the mention of King's name evokes not the man, but the issue which ended with the attempt to silence Truth, only toi find it will always rise again from its own ashes, as if the Phoenix of mythology.

Jesus was saying that what he said about God and Judaism was the Truth, and that the Jews would forever mark his presence by his name that would equate with the Christianty that keeps facing the Jews down.

The Truth jesus proclaimed is now synonomous with the very word Christ.

No, I think you're confusing Cupid Dave's heresy for what I believe.

God is and was and is to come, without God there is nothing, I'm also pretty sure that all of Jesus' parables point to God in some way or another.

You're really hung up on this idea that Theistic Evolutionists interpret the Bible to be all about evolution, we don't. Most of the time we look at Gen 1 as an artefact of its time and it really does show, the cosmology described in the passage is a very bronze age middle eastern one, flat earth and everything. From the way that God creates the world we draw parallels with the creation of a temple seeing that God created the world as a home, he is the God with us, to me this is a far more evocative point of the text than holding that God created in 6 days 6000ya, especially when from what I see as Jesus' sparse points on creation he didn't take it as literal anyway.
