MMMmmmmm . . I really needed this thread today. Never heard of a Fire Rainbow, and am immediately intrigued! And never heard of God Tube either (such a noob sometimes!) Thanks *smiles*

Oh, and my gardens, despite the deepening drought, are actually doing quite well! We have to water water water, however. One nice advantage is that there are zillions less insects to deal with!

For family, distant relatives, friends and soon to become friends
Lord, light their way

count your blessings! one by one!
and pray that one day you will see the Son
keeping to His footsteps the way is won
you will come home to Jesus when day is done

Lord forgive this sinner
thou knowest my every thought word and deed
continue to teach me better ways
that I may then teach others in thy place
for thy name's sake
amen

Yep !

Where 'containers' are large pots, [and not, 'Shipping Containers']

Tomatoes, require a bright and sunny aspect
indeed, they need, as many hours of daylight as they can get
They need moisture ....growing bags are brilliant, they, love them

Slugs, [and Snails] have hit almost everything here....
I guess UMBRELLA CITY makes 'transporting' themselves 'everywhere'
so-easy
Whole rows of lettuce and salad greens seedlings have simply disapeared
seedling flowers at pricking-out stage [in their growth] too.... GONE!!!

Whilst the exporting of snails to France , might be an option
no matter, what I contrive, the slugs keep returning
I may become bald, at this rate

I guess, that... WHATEVER SURVIVES....HERE... is meant-to do so

Hey Dave, I've never had trouble with slugs, but have heard others who've set out little shallow pans of beer to entice the slugs. They fall in and wallow in the stuff and drown (or do they get so drunk they can't get back out and THEN drown?! :) Just a thought if you haven't tried that yet.

Hello there Worddancer

I could send you all we have [?]
I had twinges of conscience, as to HOW HEAVY I should get with them

They cannot be driven-away...
some slug-pellets can be harmful to our pets
and on the ground beneath FRUITS
could mean we will absorb some of those chemicals

So, it is, that after much deliberating and self-justification
I have GONE TO WAR with them
Each and every one, that I now encounter
gets, a wee sprinkle of salt upon them [slugs and snails alike]
Their populations are 'mind-blowingly large'
and 'caravans' of them
patrol the garden paths and plants after dark

They seem, to have 'few predators' around here
and I have never once seen a hedgehog
since my arrival here, more than 12 months ago

I only buy 'the odd bottle' of beer....
and see no-reason at-all to share that with them also [grrrrr!]

:D

I used to have lots of snails at the place I used to live at in Maryland.

I used to plant marigold around my tomato plants...my Grandmother told me years ago that slugs don't care form marigolds.

Anyway...it seemed to work and the tomatos were delicious!
