After 160 years scientists still can't convince everyone that evolution is true because it is not true. God created kinds and these kinds diversify to adapt to the environment as God designed them to, but these kinds were complex from the beginning and kind A doesn't become kind B - kind A remains kind A no matter how many variations of kind A there are. There are no new kinds since creation. Creation was 6 days as it is written and approx. 6 - 10k years have passed by since creation. It's that simple.
Evolution requires a kind of insanity of mind. Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results (much like these debates - grin : ). In a similar sense, arguments in favor of evolution follow a similar but opposite logic: "Because of similarities in life, similarities in fossils, similarities in DNA... this proves evolution is true." This is complete nonsense - why would God use completely different biological structures (DNA, cells, etc...) to serve a similar intended purpose and function? If I have an eye that "sees" and so does my dog, it doesn't mean we are evolved mammals from a common ancestor, it just means that God intended both mankind and dogkind to see... and so our DNA and our physiology will have some degree of similarity.
For the atheist, there is no ground for discussion - if they don't even believe God exists then they have bigger things to work through before trying to understand the origin of life. For Christians; however, it's without fathom why so many refuse to believe the plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face truths given in the Bible. To these Christians, I ask: What is it exactly that makes you a Christian? Oh, please go on to elaborate beyond "I'm a Christian because I believe Jesus is the son of God" and think you've justified your Christianity because many will say Lord Lord and be told by Jesus that He never knew them. How is it that you are truly following Him - being obedient to His word, believing as He believed? Is it by just believing the truths about your sin, but not about how and when He created you? Pretty lukewarm - sounds like more of a fan.
Being a fan of Christianity - believing in just the bits and pieces that we like makes us no more a Christian than being a fan of the New England Patriots makes us Tom Brady.
