Grieve has a broad area of meaning in Hebrew. You need to find the right definition there and not from modern usage.

Come on now. English is translated from the original languages. If you cannot believe the Bible in the plain English, then there is no basic common consensus on meaning. This sounds like a desperate attempt to re-write God's Word from my perspective; But please feel free to believe the Bible as you wish.

Genesis 6:6 says,
"And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart."

It's nothing more than a Rorschach test if you ignore the original languages in critical areas.

Not interested in far out interpretations on this word. You are basically saying that all translations are wrong and you are right. The only reason I believe someone can draw such conclusions is if they are being influenced by some outside teachings like the Canons of Dort, or some Calvinistic article, or something. Calvinism appeals to a certain odd mindset or personality type, and it is not consistent with the loving God of the Bible. Genesis 6:6 is not the only example, either. Why would God try to reason with Cain in Genesis 4 if it was God just choosing some to be good and His choosing others to not be good? Again, it makes no sense. Oh, but wait.... that whole passage in Hebrew means something else, right?

You need to define the words with bible dictionaries, not Webster's.

Jesus said "beware of the scribes." The scribes are those who TRAN-scribed the Law or the Scriptures. The scholar is the modern day scribe. Think.

Why would I use a Chevy service manual on a Ford? It's no different than that, if you ignore original language definitions.

Because Jesus said beware of the scribes and the scribes of our day are clearly the scholars or those who transcribed the Scriptures to change it to their own meaning. Yes, in some cases, they can be correct in their interpretations, but other times, it just doesn't make any logical sense in light of reading the whole chapter. Things have to make sense when you read them.

Also, the Bible says God has chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith. Now, stop and think for a moment. That means the guy on the street with a Bible can be more rich in faith than some fat cat with a whole pile of books on the original languages. Why? Because the poor guy just reads and believe what is on the page plainly in their Bible. Ooooh but no. We cannot have that. Only the rich who can go to Bible college or the more well off who can afford internet service can understand God's Word, right?

Oh, but wait. James was not really saying that because in the original languages, etc., etc.

Sounds like an excuse to simply not believe what God's Word is saying plainly.

Did you notice all the different meanings of "grieved" in Hebrew? Are we being honest by choosing the one we like best without balancing it against the rest of scripture? Hmmm?

Anyone can just look up the word "grieved" through out the whole of the Bible, and you can see how the word is used in context each time. So no. You are wrong.

This does not mean the human emotional view lends itself to God who does not change.

What about.... the Ninevites?
How do you change that?
When God had seen that they turned away from their wickedness, that is when he decided to no longer bring judgment upon them (Jonah 3:6-10).

Again, what about Cain? You didn't touch on that, either.
God talked with Cain and tried to convince him to do good vs. something that is wrong.
How do you get around that one?

See. That is the problem with your belief here. It has to KEEP on ignoring the plain written meaning of God's Word every time we come to a free will verse. Very convenient.

Okay. Habakkuk 2:2 is refuting your handling of Scripture. Not sure why you would give a like on that verse. You are actually fighting against such a verse in what it says. Or do you think it means something else in the original languages?

Okay. Stop. Your not getting it. Jonah preached that they were going to be destroyed in several days. What prevented that from happening? They turned away from sin. That is what changed the scenario. Please. Please just read the chapter. Read it now. Go back and read it. Please. Jonah 3.

God used threats to bring about repentance.

Who are you to judge my "handling" of scripture?

Jesus said we can judge righteous judgment. It doesn't make sense to read the Bible by some code key. No Bible verse tells us to use some code key or to look to the original meaning of the languages written by scholars.

God used threats to bring about repentance.

That is was a threat that was not true? Judgment was not really going to come upon them within days if they did not repent? Again, Jonah 3 destroys Calvinism. For the Ninevites determined the change of God's wrath. If this was not the case, then the threat would basically be a false bluff.
