What would a first century believer think "The First Resurrection" is?
Baptism the first Resurrection??????? NO!!! The first Resurrection is when the saints of all ages from Adam to the tribulational saints will be resurrection into new immortal bodies just like the one Jesus was resurrected into. One verse out of many that shows this transformation is Philippians 3:20-21Since Revelation is a symbolic and cryptic book of signs, symbols, and tokens - you primarily have to look into the Old Testament to deciper most of the symbols. In this particular case, you have to look at the NT writings to discover what they thought about the resurrection back in the first Century. It was simple - baptism was the first resurrection. When a person repented and was baptised and when they came up out of the water it was symbolic of being raised or resurrected with Christ. This also fits with the doctrine of Revelation where it says that the second death has no power over them - why? Because they were born again, which is obviously how men escape the wrath of God and enter the Kingdom.
Rev. 20:5-6 (KJV)
...This is the first resurrection. [6] Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ...

well it sounds really good, it even looks good with all the verses you have laid out next to it. but there's a problem....and that is before the first resurection happens the antichrist must show up first. so if I'm baptized today and you say I just experienced my first resurrection, how did I surpass the dead in Christ? because the scripture is quite clear the dead in Christ are those who refused the mark of the beast and did not worship him. they according to Rev. 20:4-6 they are in the first resurrection. I'm afraid your idea does not line up with the continuity of scriptureRomans 6:3-7 (KJV)
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? [4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead [resurrected] by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: [6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [7] For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Baptism is the first resurrection.
The problem you don't seem to catch is the first resurrection is not an on going event, it is biblically a one time event that happens in conjuntion with 1 Thess. 4:17 "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together WITH THEM in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air" look at all the passages that talk about the dead rising it is a one time event. there's no getting around these biblical factsWell, no response then allow me to finish. How about the second death? It fits like a glove with the two resurrections.
Rev. 2:11 (NASB)
'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.'
Rev. 20:6 (NASB)
Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
Rev. 20:14 (NASB)
And death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
Rev. 21:8 (NASB)
"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
The idea of a second death obviously indicates that there is such a thing as a first death. So what is the first death? Very simple - the first death was when Adam and Eve fell in the garden.
Romans 5:14 (NASB)
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
1 Cor. 15:22 (NASB)
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive.
1 Cor. 15:45 (NASB)
So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living soul." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
God had said...
Genesis 2:17 (NASB)
... but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die."
So the first resurrection is a spiritual resurrection from the death that was pronounced on Adam and all of his decendants - including us. So when people hear the Gospel message and repent and are baptised they no longer are subject to the second death. They gave up their evil ways and were buried and resurrected spiritually with Christ. The second resurrection is at the end of time when the Christian is resurrected in a new body.
Hm. Where? I see Satan showing up first ... the dead in Christ are the people that rise first in Paul's letters, right?well it sounds really good, it even looks good with all the verses you have laid out next to it. but there's a problem....and that is before the first resurection happens the antichrist must show up first. so if I'm baptized today and you say I just experienced my first resurrection, how did I surpass the dead in Christ? because the scripture is quite clear the dead in Christ are those who refused the mark of the beast and did not worship him. they according to Rev. 20:4-6 they are in the first resurrection. Right! satan shows up First, Jesus comes after the antichristHm. Where? I see Satan showing up first ... the dead in Christ are the people that rise first in Paul's letters, right?
I'm pretty sure that Satan, the Great Serpent, appeared in the Garden.Right! satan shows up First, Jesus comes after the antichrist
I assume this is a rhetorical question. Since Revelation is a symbolic and cryptic book of signs, symbols, and tokens - you primarily have to look into the Old Testament to deciper most of the symbols. Hey! Lysimachus what is your take on the three beast being allowed to live a while longer after Christ comes and destroys the fourth beast with the brightness of His coming Daniel 7:12.......I guess I'm not sure who do you think will be on the planet after the millennium for satan to decieve if everyone is destroyed and the earth is void of life?I'm going to have to disagree with you and stand with realtruth101.
I believe you are teaching a great error, which will lead many to confusion concerning the millennium, and end-time events. They will be caught "unawares" by what I consider to be your false and erroneous interpretation.
While Christ's death, burial, and resurrection is no doubt a type of our spiritual resurrection, and symbolized by baptism, this is not the first reseurrection. It is a "a resurrection", but not the first.
The only "FIRST" resurrection is when in reference to the LITERAL resurrection in 1 Thess 4:15:
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first." (1 Thess 4:15)
Now pay close attention Codger, if you wish to not be a confused man:
"I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection." (Revelation 20:4-5)
Did you just catch that Codger? The ones who were "beheaded", "came to life". "This IS THE FIRST RESURRECTION!"
The context is clear. The "First Resurrection" is being tied to a literal description of dead people, who died. Being "beheaded" is intrinsically tied to a literal "beheading". To describe it any way is to stretch the scriptures into nonsense.
Notice the next verse:
"Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:6)
Now notice what Revelation 20:14 tells us the Second Death is:
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." (Revelation 20:14)
The "Second Death" is being tied to a literal casting into the lake of fire.
If the "Second Death" is literal, then consistency demand that the First Resurrection be literal too, especially in light of the fact that it is being tied to those who had been beheaded.
Your real problem, Codger, is that you are confused on end-times chronology. You see, your main problem is, you cannot see that during the millennium, the earth is going to be void and desolate!
One more time:
The Earth during the millennium will be 100% VOID and DESOLATE!
All scriptures alluding to the "reigning on the earth" is referring to AFTER the millennium, not during. Those scriptures in Isaiah referring to the fact that babies will be born, and people dying at 100---those were "types", which would have happened had Israel remained faithful. But now these "types" will be fulfilled "antitypically"--which means, greater, but not in an identical manner to the Old Testament Types. John has REDEFINED the Old Testament Types, and shows how these OT types will be fulfilled "antitypically".
1. At the Second Coming, ALL saints, dead and living, will be resurrected, and then caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and will reign with Christ for 1000 years in HEAVEN (not earth). This is the FIRST resurrection. The Resurrection of the Righteous.
2. All the wicked will be destroyed by the brightness of Christ's Coming. This will leave the earth 100% void and desolate for the 1000 year millennium.
3. All the saints return with Christ to the earth. The New Jerusalem descends upon the Mount of Olives after Christ's feet touch it, and create a great plain.
4. All the wicked that every lived are resurrected to face the Great White Throne Judgment. This is the Second Resurrection. It is the Resurrection of Damnation. This IS the "Second Death".
All those who are lost will be resurrected in the "Second Resurrection", at the END of the 1000 years. If you are raised when you see Christ in the clouds of heaven, and see your guardian angel, then you know you are in the First Resurrection. If you are raised with myriads of people who were dead before, and you see the New Jerusalem, that "Beloved City", then you will be in the "Second Resurrection", and will know that you are lost.
All the saints that ever lived, from Adam to the last righteous man will be safely within the walls of the New Jerusalem, that "Beloved City". ALL the wicked, with Satan and his hosts will be OUTSIDE the city, on this torn up planet.
These "resurrected nations" are the ones Satan goes to "deceive". Gog and Magog. Does he deceive them in the sense of turning them away from Christ? No, they are already lost. He deceives them in the sense that they should attack the city! That they have a chance, and that he is the "good guy", and that those inside the Holy City are the "bad guys". He'll deceive them to thinking they actually have a chance against the Holy City, and deceives them into marshaling forces against the city.
After the Great White Throne Judgment, and after all the wicked have surrounded the city, fire comes down from heaven and devours ALL the wicked.
This lake of fire will envelop the entire planet, except the spot where the New Jerusalem rests.. The ENTIRE earth will be purified and cleansed with fire, and all wicked beings will be eradicated and completely destroyed. Then God will remove the fire, and the earth will be MADE NEW!
After the earth is made new, and restored back to its Edenic glory, the gates of the New Jerusalem will OPEN, and the saints will go out to possess the land!
This is the the ANTITYPICAL fulfillment of all the land promises made to Israel!
God bless,
Lysimachus
Never mind my previous post I see who you got living in the mil, and I have to say, It won't pan out scripturally, a man has only one life to live and then judgement, you have people who were dead being raised to life to live again......I'm sorry I'm going to have to disagree with that partI'm going to have to disagree with you and stand with realtruth101.

I am a big fan of the historicism, I think I've seen some of your post on the "late "prophecy talk" website, and am in agreement with you, on almost every part especially the literal interpretation of Rev. 20:4 as being those in the first and only first resurrection of the just. what is your interpretation of the three beast that were allowed to live Daniel 7:12, after Christ coming we see He destroys the beast and false prophet, and all who took the mark and worshipped the beast and his image, yet we see that many nations still in existance, I'm wondering if there are nations and people as decribed in Daniel 11:42 who will escape the hand of the antichrist, and will be allowed to live a bit longer, and those wicked as described being destroyed at Jesus coming are those who allied themselves with the beast and false prophet, who took the mark and worshiped the beast and his image? and the rest are allowed to live out there lives and die natural deaths waiting for their judgement at the end of days, the end of the satans last and final attempt to decieve the world? I'm open to any enlightenment to this via scripture, whats your thoughts?
Hey! Lysimachus what is your take on the three beast being allowed to live a while longer after Christ comes and destroys the fourth beast with the brightness of His coming Daniel 7:12.......I guess I'm not sure who do you think will be on the planet after the millennium for satan to decieve if everyone is destroyed and the earth is void of life?
