The Father’s Desire, Our Heart’s Delight

Psalm 40:
6 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; my ears You have opened.
Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.
7 Then I said, Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written about me.
8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, Your law is within my heart.

Many Christians are quick to state that The Law is written upon their hearts.
What is true about the condition of our heart, manifests in outward behavior.

9 I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly;
Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O Lord, You Yourself know.
10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your Truth
From the great assembly.

Believers who have made the Lord their delight will quickly draw the attention
of His enemies, and enmity from the carnal nature.
This is when the Lord becomes their Deliverer.

11 Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord; Let Your
lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.
12 For innumerable evils have surrounded me; My iniquities have overtaken me,
so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head;
Therefore my heart fails me.
13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; O Lord, make haste to help me!

We learn to pray in earnest when confronted with the forces of darkness.
14 Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion Who seek to destroy my life;
Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor wishing me evil.
15 Let them be confused because of their shame, saying to me, “Aha, aha!”

This is when the Lord our Deliverer becomes the Rejoicing of our heart.
16 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let such as love Your
salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified!
17 But I am poor and needy;Yet the Lord thinks upon me.
You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.

This brings us back around to the beginning of the Psalm, with comprehension.

1 I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.
2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay,
He set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.
3 He has put a new song in my mouth—Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.

The Beatitudes become reality for those who delight In The Will of The Father.

4 Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud,
nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 Many, O Lord my God, the wonderful works You have done; and Your thoughts toward
us cannot be recounted to You in order; I would declare and speak but they are more
than can be numbered.

And we are left speechless before His Presence in our secret place

Rejoicing before The Lord, to the dismay of the flesh, and the people are blessed.

2 Samuel 6:
14 Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.
15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with
the sound of the trumpet.
16 Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked
through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she
despised him in her heart.

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet
David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes
of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!
21 So David said to Michal, It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel.
Therefore I will play before the Lord.
22 And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight.
But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.
23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.

And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
