• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mae Govannen, meldonya. This thread is for anyone who desires to practice their speaking of the various dialects of Elvish from JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
The only rules are that in the title box of your post you put the dialect you are speaking in, and that you italicize, like this, anything that is in Elven. Thanks and have fun.

That depends entirely on which of the two you want to translate it into. Why don't you PM me and I can help you out, unless you want to do the translating yourself, in which case I will post some links here.

sure, I'd love to re-learn it. Will you be posting lessons or how will you do it? What does Almare mean? I can't remember for the life of me.
No, I will not really be posting lessons, etc. This is more of a thread where you can come and speak it with other Elven-speakers. If you need to know specific information, I can give you that (i.e. verb conjugation tables, meanings of words, phrase translation, tengwar inscriptions, etc.)
Almarë can be translated as "blessings," "blessedness," "good fortune," or "bliss." Hope that helps.

Lubiana, if you want some good sites that teach elvish, I'd be happy to recommend some... although there are some that are not recommended by anyone out there.
...that is, when I can figure out how to link them in a post or PM... :sorry:  Im naer (I'm sorry). :(
That's all from me for now...

Wormie, what dialect of Elvish is that? I recognize some of the words as Quenya, but others I am not sure about?

Mára aurë. Essenya Morvaltur. Manen nalyë?

(Hello. My name is Morvaltur. How are you?)

It is well to see fellow speakers of Quenya on Christian Forums.

No galu govad gen
(May Blessings go with you.)

All Quenya except the last phrase, which was Sindarin.

Aiya, meldonyar! Essenya Jochanaan. I have never studied Elvish formally, but I love languages and have visited Middle-Earth often enough to declare residency.:)

Is it kosher to quote things in other Middle-Earth languages such as Dwarvish or the Rohirrim speech?

Nai hiruvalye Valimar. "Maybe thou shalt find Paradise." Namarie! (For this time, anyway.:) )

Kosher? hmmmm... It really does not matter to me. You may do so if you wish. Just remember that this is a forum to speak Elvish mainly. Of course, a thread to speak Dwarvish would be interesting... I do not know many people who speak it.
