They spoke their piece. Their fans could've reacted by supporting them or rejecting them for their views. They rejected them.

I've thought it over, and you're right. Freedom of speech does apply both ways. Even though I think the entire debate about the Dixie Chicks was ludicrous, people can burn Dixie Chicks CDs and paraphenalia if they so choose. Having said that, however, the death threats were going too far.
