  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

However, as of yet the only miracle I have heard of Jesus performing that couldn't/hasn't been done by a modern day magician is coming back to life.
Um ... the feeding of the 5000?

Putting Malthus' ear back on him?

Calming the storm?

Raising Lazarus from the dead?

Jesus was tempted by a human invention, was He?

Was it someone's ego that took Him up on an "exceeding high mountain"?

If he was up on that "exceeding high mountain" then it was his own ego, inventing a demon, that took him there. We are all tempted by wealth, by power, and by pride, but that is not the work of devils, that is just us. We have to realize that yielding to those temptations leads us to harm others. That is the whole point of the parable. The "gospels" are parables about a teacher who spoke in parables.

"And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." --- Mark 4:9 KJV

Food for thought...

“There is no such thing as an external enemy, no matter what that voice in your head is telling you. All perception of an enemy is a projection of the ego as the enemy.”

-Dr. Deepak Chopra M.D.

I agree with Deepak here in thinking that the devil is no more than a human invention so that we have someone (or something) to blame when things go wrong.

Actually, the root of the term "satan" derives from the term "adversary", and was typically associated with human ego and/or selfish desires. Serving mammon rather than God tended to get in the way of having a good personal relationship with God. :) Deepak is actually closer to the root term of the word than many modern day "Christians" IMO.

Even a broken clock is right two times a day. Deep-pocket Chopra is mostly pseudoscience woo-woo, best known for his "non-locality" BS.

He's a hack. But he's not right here either. If you think there's no such thing as an external enemy, you would just imagine a mugger would go away and he would?

Interesting note: A storm like that contains more energy than most nuclear bombs. Dispersing it all like that so quickly is way beyond what modern technology can do. I'd certainly like to see some street magician pull that off.

A storm like what?

Dispersing it all like that so quickly is way beyond what modern technology can do. I'd certainly like to see some street magician pull that off.

And yet they disperse all the time.

You do not understand what devil is. Devil does not necessary make things go wrong. Devil may also make things go right and correct. Examples of such are everywhere in our life.

With this understanding, the idea in your OP is no longer valid.

Fair enough, although humans do have a tendency to exaggerate.

Why would the devil, a supposedly malicious being, do anything beneficial?

That's what we call 'the snare of the devil.'

2 Timothy 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

I am curious, exactly how powerful is the devil supposed to be? I know the devil isn't like god, so there must be a limit.
