I'm not sure that asking independents to vote for the candidate which lies less is going to do many favors for the Trump campaign.

We'll see who independents vote for in just a few short months.

Maybe the "fair" thing to do would be for Democrats to just sit out this election cycle? Seems like a modest enough proposal.

The Democrats knew that Biden was declining. I honestly believe they thought they could get Biden elected again and that he was the only one that could beat Trump. So they propped up the lie that he was fine. It wasn't hidden from the media. The media was absolutely complicit in their willingness to "fact-check" anyone who dared to question that Biden was "sharp".

But then it all blew up in their face. The debate made the lie quite obvious. And now they find themselves in a mess because of it.

How in the world you get "master strategist" from that debacle is beyond me.

I can always tell that an argument is going to be reasonable and not the least bit hysterical when it starts with personal attacks.

And yet he was still skilled enough to win all those primaries despite everyone knowing the truth. Pretty impressive feat given he was also totally senile for months. That is, if we're to ignore the contradictions and believe all the various versions of the stories coming from the right.

I suspect that you just don't believe Trump, who for months has said that Harris would be even easier to beat than Biden. [BTW, that's also what the polls said].

I also suspect that you don't believe the nonsense about the "mess" that has resulted, given that Harris already has pledges of support from almost everyone including a majority of elected delegates. The 2024 convention will show the Democrats even more united then in 2020.

I argued with you about your take on it.

What you're conveniently leaving out is that fact that in this case, your side (i.e. the "Biden is too old" side) was guilty of making some assumptions based on incomplete information that mirrored other faulty interpretations your side had made in other cases where the footage was obviously selectively edited or presented. You, personally, made a number of assumptions from his facial expressions that you had no way of verifying, yet took to be accurate, and expected the rest of us to be accurate. It's not "gaslighting" to say that you were presumptuous. You were. You may not have been wrong, ultimately, but you were presumptuous. It's no different than lefties who predicted that Trump would try to stay in office if he lost reelection in 2020 (Marc Maron, for example, has a bit about this in his special from 2020) - they were presumptuous, but also turned out to have guessed right.

I'd argue that many other folks on the Right who've argued this point have been untrustworthy, using selectively edited footage and just generally acting in bad faith. Biden obviously looked slower and older, but it's hard to assess the degree to which this is the case when the folks making the claims are being deliberately dishonest and/or are so media illiterate that they can't tell when somebody else is being dishonest.

This is pretty much saying “Yes, he’s a cognitively impaired old man and you were right but you didn’t have proof.”

There is a minor difference between someone not being able to be picked BECAUSE THEY'RE DEAD vs someone not being able to be picked because they have no longer got the mental capacity for the job. In neither case is an adequately functioning brain present, which is, or should be, a requirement for the job.
