  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why Obama And The Democrats Can't Get Any Love For The Economy
Mark Gongloff said:
The U.S. economy is growing, unemployment is tumbling and stocks are at record highs. So why aren't President Barack Obama and the Democrats getting enough credit for that to avoid a big loss in Tuesday's midterm elections?

Maybe because, for way too many Americans, the economy might as well still be in recession.

Most of the benefits of the economic recovery that began in 2009 have accrued only to the wealthiest Americans. Middle-class Americans, meanwhile, have been left behind. Their wages and wealth have stagnated -- a key reason why polls show that most Americans think the economy is still in a recession, even though it technically started recovering five years ago.

It turns out that a lopsided recovery isn't likely to be considered creditable by the majority of voters.

Speaking of the bright spots, my 13 year old asked who won the governor's race this morning. She was appalled that Abbott won over Davis. I asked her why when all during the airing of the campaign commercials she wanted the one (Davis) who was like Obama to lose. She told me that her class saw one of the debates and that the issues came clear when the candidates had to speak to the questions put before them and that the majority of her classmates voted for Davis based on what they saw and heard. Their different views on education was the key issue for these 8th graders, of course. But this points to the fact that peer pressure and sound bites do not make for an educated voter.

Two comments from my friend GOPLifer...
Texas isn’t just Republican, it has shifted off the map to become a sort of Baptist Iran. It’s unclear whether the Obama Administration will step in to stop Gov. Abbott from developing nuclear weapons, but they should look into it.

Though Abbott was at the top of the ballot and got all the attention, whack-job Lt. Governor Dan Patrick will now be the most powerful political figure in the country’s second-largest state. The righteous need not fear. The rest of you might want to make some alternate plans.

I am still trying to understand why. Do they not remember the government shutdown? Do they not know that only the rich benefit from Republicans?
Did you read what I wrote about my 13 year old grand daughter? The candidates are not listened to on the issues, it is the attack ads that make the impact in voters minds. All the more reason to get money out of elections.

Gloatfest. In 2012 we at least tried to keep it contained to a single gloat thread.

Things go in cycles. Gloatfest and Whinefest........

Define "Whinefest." If you mean whining about how the results turned out, which I'm sure you do, then there are two ways of looking at election results. One way is to analyze the results, seeing what it was that your side did wrong. The other way is to blame the voter for not seeing the light - seeing why it is you think you are best for them. I see the left doing more of the former and the right doing the latter. Only one is "whining." ;)

If the US system resembled that of certain parliamentary models, a government shutdown would have triggered the dissolution of Congress, leading to fresh elections, which the Republicans would have lost. Enough time has elapsed since the shutdown for them to recover enough to be competitive in the mid-terms.

Some Democrats also decided to basically run as Republicans (e.g., Mark Pryor). A stupid strategy. Not only does it alienate Democrats, who would have voted for him, but Republicans are obviously going to vote for the actual Republican.

And yet for some reason we are sore winners and bad losers. I took our defeat far better than conservatives took theirs in 2012.

Party because we knew it was coming. Nate Silver predicted as much and remember he predicted 2012 pretty much down to the letter. Whereas conservatives had worked themselves into a nice lather about how Romney would win "by a large margin," ignored Silver, and got slapped so hard that I had a grin on my face for a couple months.

GOP thanks Dems for sidelining 'best messenger' Obama - CNN.com
Peter Hamby said:
The strategist in charge of electing a Republican Senate majority thanked Democrats on Thursday for keeping President Barack Obama on the sidelines and building their campaigns around women's issues instead of making an economic argument.

Rob Collins, the executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told reporters in a postmortem session that Democrats "sidelined their best messenger" by running from Obama.

Making sense of the U.S. midterm results Midterms create Congressional firsts GOP delivers big blow to Dems in midterms
"They were so focused on independents that they forgot they had a base," Collins said of Democratic campaigns. "They left their base behind. They became Republican-lite."
