A WARNING - WE COULD LOSE IN 2024 IF WE CAN'T GET THESE ISSUES RIGHT

1) IMMIGRATION
Biden is doing what he can. The party must support a border CLOSED to those who break the law, and closed. If we are going to continue to accept economic immigrants just because they say they are asylume seekers, then we must process them very quickly and yes, they need to be in camps until there is adjudication.

If the liberals don't close the border, then the fascist will. It is just that clear.

They is a consensus among voters for immigration reform as agreed to 10 years ago, HOWEVER, there is also a consensus that this CANNOT happen until the border is closed. True asylum seekers can appeal for entry in a foreign embassy. It is a travesty that those who worked for the US in Afghanistan are not welcomed in large numbers when they seek asylum. We cannot simply accept the millions and millions who want to leave Venezuala, Cuba and even Mexico. The number of refugees from Venezuala is almost equal to the number who have left the Ukraine, the difference being that most of the Ukranian refugees will go home after the war.

We can have immigration reform, including a path to citizenship for those here before a certain date. HOWEVER, first the Texas border MUST be closed. AFTER this happens, we can develop an immigration system that WELCOMES immigrants, similar to the systems in Canada, Australia, the UK, and Singapore (Germany will follow soon).

We need immigrants, as always. Without immigration, we will have a declining aging population, with the need for workers getting worse and worse.

2) TRANS FOLKS PLAYING IN WOMEN'S SPORTS
There are more Republican bills than there are players actually playing. There is only disadvantage for Democrats to acept the Republican bait on this issue.

As an aside, the idea of hormone treatment for children who identify as trans is NOT accepted by the vast majority of AMericans. CERTAINLY not without parental consent. IMO, parents are responsible for the medical decisions regarding their children. And yes, abortion is a different issue entirely (one we have the very high ground, as long as we don't make a bid deal of support late term abortions).

3) FAILURE TO ALLOW LOCAL CONTROL FOR SCHOOLS
Schools are a local responsibility. Yes, there can be federal money, but this money cannot be to federal control of anything having to how to spend the money. If a local school district wants to ban sex education, so be it. If a local school district wants to ban books, folks in other states cannot intervene. The feds can have studies and advice, but in the end, these are local issues. To be clear, Democrats need to be much more vocal is school meetings and work with others much better than we do.

In a few weeks millions of voters across the United States will vote. "Election Day" is really just the end of an election period now with so many mail-in ballots and more states having early in-person voting. Some states have their governor elections during odd-numbered years and there are issues all over the place. So if you have not looked at your ballot online yet, this is the time to do so, depending on where you live and how you prefer to vote.

Two days in a row now Trump has posted online saying to Jack Smith he needs to go and meet Satan in hell. Trump has stooped to a new low level of insulting, and I won't be surprised if it gets worse.
Looney-tooney is one way out of jail. Vincent "The Chin" Gigante, Harry Helmsley, Tom Girardi...and it might not even be fake!

Republicans are going after more than trans in sports. Like blocking care access in Florida to adults, by preventing registered nurses from administering gender affirming care to adults.

April 20th, the most important day of this year, by far.

Passing the foreign aid bill gave Biden a fighting chance to beat Trump. Both wars were in danger of being major issues.
==========
Now Biden must deal with the teal issues (or lose):

INFLATION: Not, the economy which is fine. Prices are so much higher than 3 years ago for food, rent, insurance and buying a house.

THE BORDER
When some crosses the border and commits illegal acts like murder, he IS AN illegal, and he IS a criminal. Biden need to move far from the immigration views of the left and deal with the current issue: Currently, we cannot come close to dealing with the numbers crossing the border illegally. Trump ALLOWED the Ukraine bill to pass, without forcing any border solutions to be included. He made the right political move. Biden needs to change his rhetoric and call out that of the left. He must act to reduce the problem, even with steps that are for show only.

EDUCATION
The left doesn't come close to understanding the issues of our youth and the failure of middle schools, high schools and colleges to help them in any meaningful way. The left knows of no answer to the effect of smart phones and drugs on kids. Banning books in middle schools is NOT the answer. Even DiSantis understand that the answer is banning smart phones and social media.

This aside from the biases that the teaching profession (especially college) is trying to pass on to their students.

Pretty fair assessment I think. For example, one massive negative re inflation is of course housing -- both buying and renting: which are artificially inflated prices due to zoning restricting construction and density (such as being able to construct a rental unit on your house property, etc., or being able to build a multi-unit on a 'single family' zoned area, etc.), so a reasonable response would be to consider whether the federal government could do something to encourage better zoning (or make a law that controls local zoning excesses). Houston is a great example of what a big city can be like in housing costs if there is little restriction in zoning -- it has much lower housing costs due having very little zoning restrictions.

Here's a review article:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...g-affordability-nimby-parking-houston/661289/

An excerpt:
It doesn’t have to be this way. In cities like Minneapolis and Hartford, local YIMBY groups have abolished zoning policies such as minimum parking requirements. In states like California and Oregon, policy makers now heavily restrict the ability of local governments to ban apartments. At the federal level, bills with unsubtle names such as the “Yes In My Backyard Act” and the “Build More Housing Near Transit Act” are winding their way through Congress. If passed, they would tie coveted federal dollars to zoning liberalization, providing a needed check on local NIMBY impulses.
...
Consider America’s lone unzoned major city. Houston twice put zoning to a citywide vote, where it lost because of opposition from working-class voters of all races. As a result, land-use regulation in Houston is largely focused on regulating actual nuisances, like noisy neighbors or slaughterhouses; the city’s few zoninglike regulations, such as minimum lot sizes and parking mandates, are on the way out. Blocks that want stricter rules can voluntarily opt into them through private deed restrictions. But they can’t just show up at public hearings and shout their preferences into law.

The results speak for themselves. Houston builds housing at 14 times the rate of peers like San Jose. And it isn’t just sprawl: In 2019, Houston built roughly the same number of apartments as Los Angeles, despite being half its size. Since reforms to minimum-lot-size rules were put in place in 1998, more than 25,000 townhouses have been built, overwhelmingly in existing urban areas.

To be clear, Houston has made its share of planning mistakes. But, free of zoning, the city can constantly remake itself. That Houston is now one of the most affordable and diverse cities in the country is no accident.

Since you wrote such a substantive post, I'm using more than one post to reply.

Re the Border -- the stuff about 'undocumented immigrants' is mostly just a political tactic, calculated to create fear in order to win more votes.

When Trump says immigrants are "poisoning the blood of our country", it's a rhetoric (lie) meant to create fear to make more people vote for him.

Just as in various nations at different times -- when the evil group the nation had to be saved from was Jews, or Catholics, or here immigrant Latinos, etc... -- the aim is to lie about them enough to get people to fear them and vote for the leader that will save them from the other (the imagined evil group).

Literally, Trump is just using a demonization (slander) about immigrants in order to provoke fear and win votes.

So, the answer isn't to merely go along with Trump. It's fine to have better border security.

But it's essential/crucial to clearly point out what Trump is doing, and try to help people wake up from the fear dream Trump's lie creates.

That should not be just another sentence among 30 sentences about policy/accomplishments in a speech.

It should be the entire lone topic of a major speech, by itself.

Exactly correct, but it's not so much the 'left' here, but instead it's most of America that doesn't yet understand the problem from smartphones -- left, right, or center.

Only a small fraction of America has started to realize that smartphones disadvantage kids even at age 15, 16, where even the aware minority used to think it was mostly about just waiting until they were old enough, so that a smartphone would become ok at age 13 or 14....

That's zero to do with 'left' or 'right', etc. -- it's about awareness.

It's sorta surprising to me that DeSantis would get that. Do you know whether Desantis really understand the problem from smartphones? -- for instance, is he more thinking about some side topic like Tiktok? (Florida Gov. DeSantis signs bill to ban students from using phones and TikTok in schools)
