  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

And of course, I get a rep comment from a Conservative who frequents their safe house about my disgust at the anti-gay crowd saying "it's not being anti-gay it's being anti-sin." And there are a lot more than 4 non-duplicate anti-gay clobber passages. No, actually there aren't. I've studied this topic for over 10 years. These people are clueless

They are so oblivious to how much harm they're causing. If God hated homosexuality so much, he shouldn't have created it in every animal species on Earth.

"it's not being anti-gay it's being anti-sin."

Do they also support repealing the first amendment and making lying a sin? And then establishing Christianity as the official religion and persecuting all other religions (first couple of commandments would call for this)? If conservatives really want laws that prohibit sin, they should at least be consistent.

Of course not, all they focus on is the evil gays. Pornography, obesity, divorce, adultery, teen pregnancy, etc. are all highest in the Bible Belt. But no, let's obsess over the gays and make them feel like trash. As Jesus said, "Hypocrites!"

One "sin," practiced by a minority of individuals (if "practiced" is even the right word - it's not), receives such a disproportionate amount of attention compared to much more prevalent sins, which are tolerated by most Christians with equanimity.

Yup, which I think indicates a more psychological explanation, as opposed to just "the Bible says so". They'd hate gays even if the Bible was 100% silent on the matter. They just use God and the Bible to justify something they don't like and don't understand.

It's also no coincidence so many "family values" conservatives come out as gay or get caught in gay scandals.

Considering these sins, which are arguably the most prevalent, would require Christians who condemn gays to reflect on themselves instead. They'd be condemning themselves for sin instead of "the other." They don't appear to be aware of the glass house (glass megachurch?) they are casting stones from.

Lol, if you look at the Conservative Safehouse he's responding to my criticism of his comments, claiming I know nothing about scripture on the topic. Actually I know quite a bit. I've studied it for over 10 years. It's not as black and white as conservatives want to believe. Even the world's leading expert on Leviticus, a Conservative Rabbi said it has nothing to do with modern day gays. Corinthians has a very questionable translation seeing as homosexual was not added to the verse until the 1940s and in all classical literature, it referred to economic crimes. And Romans 1 is a complicated discussion on pagan rituals and the Cybelene fertility cult with concepts coming from Plato.

These people are destroying gay people's lives with their beliefs. They promote harm, not love. Those beliefs are not of God.

Metal Minister, since you're obviously reading this thread, posting a stupid Youtube link from no doubt some clueless Fundamentalist is not evidence. I can post plenty of articles that disprove your claims.

I've already studied this topic intensively for years and years. I know more about it than you EVER will. And I will no recant the fact that I believe the type of beliefs the anti-gay crowd hold are truly destructive and evil. You haven't the foggiest clue how much damage they do to gay people, especially young gays.

That's enough, now. It's time for a refresher of the posting protocol. Please read this before continuing:

And although this is a safe house, we will not have arguments going back and forth between the "houses". Disagreeing with policies is fine. Insults are not.

It's very sneaky and dishonest to use reps to get their anti-gay agenda across.

Sorry man. We are only human. But it's the way it is. That's the way they think about us, and this is the way we think about them. And we'll be having these arguments long after you and I are in the ground.

[I put this in the safe house as I would like to see a discussion (if any) go on where the topic will not get sidetracked.]

Yes, we’re stuck with Hillary: But we don’t need an Elizabeth Warren-esque savior for a battle of ideas

As the 2016 election comes closer we see what seems inevitable on the Dem side. This article raises the thought on how we can change the dialog to get Dem candidates talking more to the voters than to the corporate donors.
As Obama wrestles with Congress, Democratic candidates dial for dollars or hobnob with consultants. All give rousing populist speeches. Most then seek out quiet places where they can safely whisper to their donors. They’ve been at it so long it doesn’t feel like lying, but if cognitive dissonance were a fatal disease they’d all be dead by morning.
The advice Democrats get from consultants is killing them but they don’t know it. America needs broad reform to solve problems that affect us all. Consultants micro-target niche constituencies. It turns out you can’t sell big changes with mere slogans. Real reformers must marshal facts and apply logic to sway opinion. Political consultants are in a different line of work.

Progressives waiting for Democrats to change are dangerously deluded. It hurts to admit that their leaders are addicted to money and to the sense of emotional security consultants provide in lieu of insight — and worse, they can’t see it or change.

The midterm elections showed just how poorly the Democrats’ business model is working for them. Our entire political debate attests to it. I said last week that the public is growing more progressive. A right-leaning reader wrote in to ask if I’d heard about the election. I did, which is why I didn’t say people are growing more Democratic, just more progressive.
We've all heard the progressive talk from those we know are not progressives, be it Ted Cruz or many of the posters here on this site. But this is OUR message, the message of progressive thoughts, ideas and politics. We can not let them talk the talk when they don't walk the walk.
No matter who the Democrats or any party may nominate, winning requires an agenda that speaks to the disaffected, a group that now includes most voters. Democrats can’t do it on their own; they’ve neither the tools nor the permission. And regardless of who wins we’ll achieve little without a strong movement to hold the winners to account.
Thoughts? Comments? Ideas?
