  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Interesting point. I've chatted with my sister about it a bit, she's starting the MA in Psychology program next fall.

What are your thoughts on the frequency a psychiatrist/therapist resorts to prescribing medication? Do you think it's overdone, underdone or maybe par for the course?

Love the avatar.

I think all of the mental health and medical field looks for the drugs to use very quickly. That said, it is hard to criticize individual decisions without knowing the case. And I wouldn't know how many other things were tried like reframing. Sometimes the patient is so mired into their ..... bad, for lack of a better word... thinking, that they refuse to leave it and undermine any other therapeutic efforts.

Man, parts of this place have become a laughing stock.
Somehow some of them think it is sexist if one doesn't attack Elizabeth Warren the same way we might do to their princess Palin. Ya, they're projection is astounding! Let's not forget that it is acceptable to substitute a brownie for a wedding cake!

I agree. Anything specific you've noticed?
Mainly just the call of ¡SOCIALISM! over anything that they can't actually make a point about. Then there are the lack of links to back up what is put out as fact.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm not here for any type of discussion or argument - it's now all about the entertainment factor. :p

Amazing one thread for your soapbox wasnt enough?
You want to talk about multiple threads? What of the threads that are asking inane questions? Age discrimination against minors? What about the actual discrimination against older workers. This country becoming a Muslim majority? Really? Again, fine for the entertainment, but as an actual discussion point?

Problem is that someone will quote the ignored and you'll find you're reading what you wanted to not read anyway. I ended up ignoring the ignore feature. And like I said, the entertainment factor is there.

That doesn't bother me, watching others taking the bait.

One doesn't even need to attack Palin, she's quite skilled at making herself look like a fool. Case in point, her most recent speech where she couldn't form a coherent sentence.

For me it's the anti-gay attitude. It's really turning me away from religion/Christianity. For people who claim to be followers of Jesus, the amount of harm inflicted on LGBTs by Christians is astounding to me. For something that gets so little attention in the Bible (arguably 4 non-duplicate verses), Christian attack gays more than anything else, even more than things Jesus actually talked about.

I'm just incapable of respecting the Anti-gay crowd.

:(

It becomes increasingly sickening.

I have kept away from the church for the past few years for a number of reasons, and this bias was one of the issues that turned me off. However, we are attending an Episcopalian church this Sunday, and this is said to be an 'inclusive' church which welcomes everyone.

Most depressingly for this Christian is the experience of my youngest child, a boy. He's very sensitive and loving, and decided for himself (with no parental influence) that nobody should be treated differently on the basis of race, creed, or sexuality. Unfortunately - and it really is unfortunate to me now - we put him into a private Christian school for K through 8. He did graduate from that environment excelling academically, but he also graduated with a deep suspicion and mistrust of Christian kids and Christianity. Some of the things he has told me are awful, and just do remind me that just labeling a school "Christian" (or any other religious label) does not mean that the kids within behave any better than any kids in any non-religious schools. Of course, I already should know this, because I have seen such poor behavior on the part of adult Christians but, really, I wonder why we wasted so much money on this education which has left my son with such a poor impression of Christianity.

I am just hoping that this church experience of Episcopalians might renew his faith in .. faith. I'm certainly hoping that it renews my own.

Sorry that wasn't very political, but it came up last night in a conversation with him, and I'm still sad about the things he told me.

If she can trash liberals and others she doesn't know, i wont stay silent about her. I will lay off of her when the conservatives finally realize she hurts their agenda.

Faith in faith...
I like that. In my time here I've lost my faith in religion and instead found faith in humanity. Granted, there are times it won't show up in some of what's read here, but it's here nonetheless. Humans have an innate sense of goodness in them as long as it isn't corrupted by greed and selfishness and ego. I live to see that in people and love to see it in some you might not expect it from.

Gotta believe in goodness, no matter where it springs from.
