I am christian and I love Dan Brown and books written by him, all of them. However the most discussed books by Dan Brown among the Christians are The Da Vinci code and Angels and Demons.

I read both and I was impressed by them, the story was just great! I know it is fictional, unlike some people. Not everything in this book is truth we know that and some of you said it before. But that's not reason to hate this book. If you are strong in faith you will never doubt it just because you have just read some fictional novel. :)

But I admit that many think that everything in this book is truth, but many of the readers will get interested in christianity on the other hand.

I can't wait for the movie. I wonder if it'll be as good as the book is. ;)

Angles and Demons was great. I am only half way through the Da Vinci Code. Yet, it is a fun read as well.

Fact is, as Christians we recogize that there is a satanic conspiracy against God and his Kingdom. I think books like Dan Brown's offer us insight into the mind of these enemies.

The Da Vinci Code is simply a disinformation tool used to confuse the world even futher while the kingdom of the antichrist is being built around us. And all the while, a quick buck is made.

This would be my 2 cents as well. Very well said gts.

I've read it. I didn't think it was very good as a work of literature. Too trashy, too many bangs and guns and running all over the place. I also thought it was too sweeping. Too much dodgy scholarship and conjecture bundled as fact. I'm going to see the film though (mainly because Audrey Tatou is hot!)

Are we talking about the same book? The one that spends almost all it's time with the characters standing around prattling about the details of a fictional history? I could only recommend it as a cure for insomnia.

Sounds like the movie may be more interesting than the book...but then again, maybe not??

This movie is blasphemy. How could Tom Hanks let himself get wrapped up in this trash.

Ha ha, The problem is some people think that while the story is made up, the "truth" of the story is true. Sadly several of my unbelieving friends have made the Da Vinci Code the basis for not believing in Christ.
So you think Jesus was married and had a child? Is that the "truth" to which you prescribe?

I said Some people, not me. I put "truth" in " " marks to sound sarcastic. I dont believe a word of the Da Vinci Code, rest assured.

Don't ya just hate it when people respond to what they thought they read, or wanted to read and not the actual words you typed?

Fortunately I didn't get as far as reading the Da Vinci Code, but read the book before up till about half way, when it got to much for me to take in. It's a book and now movie that has the capacity to do alot of damage to Christianity. It's great to see Christian leaders and organisations giving help to christian's to defend the faith.

Unlike Judaism, In Christianity the winning side burns the books of the losing side so there is no way to know if there is any history in the DC.
I'm not sure what is meant by this, but I have on my bookshelf the text of every single alternative Gospel known--even the Gospel of Judas--often several times over. So how is it that the winning side supposedly suppressed, or burned, the books of the losing side when they're readily available to anyone wishing to see them?

Guys,
At the risk of sounding horribly out of date, I still have one question about the Da Vinci Code.
Despite ongoing debate, which I try to keep up with, and lectures in one of my modules at University, I still can't quite work out why the Church calls the book blasphemous.
Now, don't get me wrong, I know that everything in the book is a concoction of pure fiction, but my real question is, what is wrong with the idea of Christ being married? As far as I can tell, this is the central issue, as well as perhaps having children. Marriage, and indeed sex within a marriage is no sin, so why should this "upturn" the New Testament, and the idea of Christ?
Let me be clear in saying that I don't believe that Jesus was married or had children, but I feel that I need an answer to give when asked this question myself.
Cheers,
J

Good book, entertaining and enlightening.

No offense but how could a book of fiction be enlightening?  Don't tell me you actually believe what the book claims!

I don't think it's the concept of Jesus having been married that is the central issue over which so many Christians are upset. Rather it's that the book denies Jesus' divinity.

In the past few days I find that I am more disturbed by the press coverage surrounding this book/movie than I am the actual book/movie. The media seems to be going out of its way to make this non-story into something. And, unfortunately, it seems to lend an air of credibility to the fiction. Wonder why all the free press on this thing?
