That's true. I mean there are Gala's and White Tie events, for example, but those are generally something else entirely. It's just so uncommon to hear someone say "I was dancing with this chick last night and I'm taking her out again tonight!" that I wouldn't count it as a remotely common occurrence. That might happen at a dance club, but usually the only thing happening afterwards is an R-rated feature that we are prohibited from discussing in this forum. ⊙.☉

Years ago I use to date this one woman and our dates were always at a local bar dancing. We would two step all night long. I did not drink and I would order Dr.Peppers all night and she would order one little mixed drink that would last all night.

So we did not meet at a dance and then go on a date but we would go on a date and dance.

Most first dates are just time to see what they are about. The next dates are doing things you have learned that they like. I like to hike and camp. A woman I am interested in also likes to do the same so our next date will probable be going hiking and camping now since the weather is cooling down. We will hike in and set up camp and while we fish at the lake we can set next to each other and talk and get to know each other more. Later that night we will both return to our one man tents until the next morning.

I have found that if the woman has character then there is no one specific way to date as when you date you are trying to figure them out and get to know them and then you go do stuff that you both enjoy.

Grab a picnic basket, go pick her up and go for a ride out in the country or somewhere with lots of nature

Eat, talk, go for a walk

When the sun falls, gaze at the stars in the night sky together

Get to know her rather then just an occasional situation

If he took me to san francisco he must have pots of cash as its a long lomg way from auckland . Lol.

I'd probably say save your money. But if I did go to SF Id probably be more interested in chinatown or seeing if he could skateboard down the steepest street, cos as you know I dont drink coffee. Never liked it, too bitter.

This could be a futile post, as your continual stating that you don't drink coffee shows that you're just not getting it, but I'll give it another try.

Coffee shops don't just sell coffee, and no one is going to insist that their date drink coffee if they don't want to. When some asks you out for coffee, what they're doing is inviting you to meet them somewhere where they can have a one-on-one interaction with you and spend some time getting to know you better.

A coffee date is ideal for this as it happens in a public place that is generally convenient to get to, and the activity of drinking coffee (or something else) isn't going to be a distraction from the main purpose of getting to know the other person. Coffee is also not that expensive, which doesn't mean that the guy is cheap, just that realistically not too many people are going to pull out all the stops for a first date since they don't know if it's going to work out. It makes much more sense to save the more elaborate dates until you know that things are going somewhere.

It's true that coffee dates aren't particularly original, but the reason for that is that they work. If they didn't then they wouldn't be so popular. It's fine if you'd prefer that some other activity be the backdrop of getting to know each other, but you seem to have some strange misconceptions about coffee dates, despite attempts at explaining it to you.

In my country if a guy asks a girl out on a date, its to somehwere special.
If he just wants to meet up they may go to a cafe but that is NOT considered a date.

I guess it sounds fine to some people to go out in the country or camping with someone you're trying to learn but for me that would creep me out. I would never do that with someone I just met and don't know really well...NO!

Ive never really seen the appeal of cities. Too many people, too much noise. Obnoxious music. Chatter. Meh. Not that the countryside can also have its downsides, but, overall i think i appreciate nature better than all the flashiness and bright lights.

For me it's not an issue of being city or country. It's an issue of safety. If I've just met a man and he's suggesting we go to the country or camping it's not happening...no way! Call me paranoid but that's okay...
