Haha yes, brinny! It's so hard to believe. And it's like God's penance that He hardened the Pharaoh's heart. Nothing is more frustrating than to do the same thing a hundred times to them realize you were doing it all wrong the whole time.

Usually with sinning comes justification. I just wonder how the Pharaoh justified all the miracles. Obviously they happened, but what did he chalk it all up to if not God?

iAlive - when I read that passage in chapter 9, I got the impression that it gave the Egyptian CITIZENS a taste of God's power and his mercy. He warned them in advance to come inside. Basically believe in him, go in door and be safe, or disbelieve and die. Imagine anyone who heeded his words, going in doors and how THANKFUL and full of belief they would be when the hail came. That action alone seems as though it would open so many hearts to faith. Plant that seed of 'what if' for God!

(I loved that verse, by the way. And it seemed significant to me too)

God is so incredible!

Yes! i noticed that too.....there WERE some Egyptians who believed and heeded God's warning...and when ya' think about it, God was showing grace by even warning them....wow, He had a BIGGER purpose in it all, that goes beyond the Jewish people and the Pharaoh......it just dawned on me as i read yer post...

amaaaaazing...what a GOOD and gracious God He is.....we see here, that He was busy, through ALL of this, gathering the Egyptians, the ones who believed on Him and protecting them along with the Jewish people.....

Thank you bcmom, happy Easter to you too =)

And brinny, that's exactly what I thought too. So often we have no idea what God's really going for, and it's always so much bigger than us. Pretty fantastic.

I just started doing Bible study and reading through different books of the Bible sometime after Christmas (for the first time ever), and it's seriously the most interesting thing I've ever read. I love that I can call God's handbook my favorite! haha. Exodus is really a fascinating history...

See, I keep gettin' confused here...Moses is doing all of this as God commands...and God seems pretty mad but it's GOD that is making Pharoah be stubborn...so why would God make Pharoah stubborn then get upset?

Could you imagine that many locusts? To be so many, the ground loox black? That would be freaky...

yet, God explains it...and i didn't notice it at first, but God KNEW Pharaoh's heart beginning to end and KNEW that Pharaoh would NEVER bow to God. God used these episodes with Pharaoh to show him and the Egyptian people His might and power, and to draw those Egyptians to Him that would come. God only escalated what was already and permanently in Pharaoh's heart to bring His purpose about.

Exodus 9:14-16
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth. For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth. And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

and verses 20-21
He that feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: And he that regarded not the word of the Lord left his servants and his cattle in the field.

It is "The Great Escape" Bible style.

God's making His name known with all these plagues and deeds.. and you know, when the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and finally got to Israel (their promised land), a part of the region seemed to have heard the story, am I right? (Who would fail to notice the sudden disappearance a power house's army? That's like noticing your friend lost all his toys, or got his house robbed or something. ) I mean, Egypt was a pretty strong 'super-power' back then, right? It must have been a beneficial factor for when they began conquering the promised land, because I think a city or two made a sort of peace treaty of surrender some sort when they arrived.

Plus it would be a remembrance to the generations that would come, and would probably serve as a reminder to his people to help keep them going in the wilderness. Or maybe it was there to get the people moving and have hope again. Like the jump-start you need to get an old vehicle going.

Now if He knew Pharoah would be that way, then He didn't need to hardened his heart, right? I'm probably just not gettin' it...thanx Brinny :)

i'm thinkin' maybe God just sped up the process.......one thing's fer sher...Pharaoh never had a heart for God.....he would NEVER worship God, ever. Even as he admitted he sinned so many times...da man had a "forked tongue", mon......he lied.

Maybe this isn't the place but could I just ask for your prayers? I've been having a lot of doubts lately and I'm really not sure about my faith any more but I still want to be a Christian so if you could put in a good word for me that would be great. If I don't post for a while though don't assume the worst as I also have a lot of studying atm. Thank you and God bless
