:) That's what's nice about reading God's word together...others might find something technical that others didn't think about...usually I'm good at eyeing the details like that, but you caught it and that's cool ....nice...

I just wanted to say I think is Bible study is a very cool. We have people from different walks of life, different parts of the world, different age groups, different denominations and, men and women coming together to study the Bible and grow in our knowledge of God's word together. I'm thankful to God for this Bible and all of you in it :) God Bless

Have they ever found this cave area that Sarah was buried in?

So I see a couple guys here back and forth about burying Sarah and loox like dude is gonna let Abraham have it for free...but Abraham seems he doesn't want charity...that he would pay for it like any regular person...cool...

Sarah lived for a good long life...wonder if people lived longer back then because of no pollution, food additives and such?

Abraham seemed to be on pretty good terms with other people living in Canaan, here the Hittites and earlier Abimelek. Wouldn't these be the people that the Israelites later slaughtered (Joshua, Gideon etc.) or is it just that at this point they didn't need the land? Then again the people the Israelites generally just killed evil people and these Hittites seem quite pleasant really.

WOW, what a meet and greet....

Also, strange way to make an oath, under the thigh?

When I read the thigh, I instantly thought of Jesus' return, riding on the horse and on His thigh King of Kings and Lord of Lords...

Several things stood out to me about this chapter. The marriage of Issac and Rebakah was much different than modern marriages. It was a family affair. Abraham's servant first gave her jewelry ( I wonder if this was the custom to say she was to betrothed?), then he approached her family to ask he hand in marriage, her family asked if she wished to be married and then she went out to meet Issac. I notice the Bible doesn't refer to any marriage ceremony or celebration, was there one?
Something else that stood out was the last verse Genesis 24:67 "Then Isaac brought her into the tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death." To me, this suggests that it's God's will for a man and wife to comfort each other in times of grief, not a physical sence but a spirtual one. That the natural order of things is for us to draw comfort from our spouses, the parteners God has chosen for us - as Rebakah was chosen for Issac by God.

Thank you bcmom for taking charge, but also thanks to Grace for doing it the rest of the time since it's been rather taken for granted.

In the footnotes of this chapter it says 'Jacob means he grasps the heel, a Hebrew idiom for he deceives'. I wonder if the saying has anything to do with the Fall when the serpent, who deceived Eve, was told that it would be hated by people and 'strike the heel' of Eve's offspring.

To me it seems Jacob holding Esau was symbolic that Jacob from birth, had a 'hold' on Esau and would control him...and he did by gettin' Esau's birthright...

So something I never thought about until reading this was that Abraham was Jacob and Esau's Grandpa....I mean, no big deal, just something I hadn't though of before.. :)

I just saw what you posted....yeah, that is quite symbolic and prophetic about Jacob having a "hold" of Esau's heel and controlling him....and so it came to pass.....
