My best guess is that the Holy Spirit was leading Abraham and may have directed him to do something different than we normally would. It might not have been sinful if God wanted Abraham to say that for some reason, maybe so that the Pharaoh would see God's power and respect Abraham's family after that?

And me! I mean that's really perceptive and stuff.

About today's reading why does everyone think Abram lied about Sarai and let her be taken by the king? Wasn't it sinful that he did it to protect his own life or was it like a necessary evil especially since Abraham is so important?

I wondered why myself that God allowed Abram to lie about Sarai being his wife. I think you perhaps right daughter of man, that Abraham was so important that God allowed this sin. Abram would surely have died if they didn't lie. It would be nice to know more about the customs of the times, it might help us to gain some insight here.

It probably mentions itin the next few chapters but does anyone know what became of Lots descendants? There's so many examples in the Bible of good people having descendants who turn away, even among God's chosen people.

And worth noting is that God probably inspired Abram to choose to live in Canaan, unless he let him choose where the Promised Land would be.

I agree; if Abram was willing to let the king take Sarai couldn't he have said so before he was killed? But that Abram didn't let himself be killed could have been for her sake since she would have had to live with the guilt of killing him if that makes any sense. Perhaps part of it was to demonstrate God's power, maybe to win over the king and the Egyptians.

Actually it mirrors the situation when the Israelites were slaves a few generations later. The king/pharoah kept her/them against their will in Egypt so God sent plagues until the king freed them.

I like the way you guys had the same thoughts as me and your own suggestions, thanks for the input  < I always thought that was meant to be someone holding a candle, makes sense now.

Awesome comparison, I never would have thought of that!

Oops, I missed a day, let's make March 5th's reading Genesis 15.

I will try to post a link on my phone, but don't know if it will work on your computers. Anyway, here is Genesis 15: Genesis 15 NIV - The LORD’s Covenant With Abram - Bible Gateway

Hope this works, I will be a lot better at posting on time if I can post the link using my phone :)

God bless you,
Grace

It's Ash Wednesday! Hope you all have a fulfilling Lent or whatever.

It's been said many times but Abraham's trust and devotion here is really incredible, and later on. The message of trust and sacrifice makes it an ideal passage for today. It's so wonderful to know that as Christians we are all children of Abraham.

Thanks, you too daughter of man :)

in chapter 15 what first caught my eye was in verse 1 where it says "the word of the Lord came unto Abram.." and i'm reminded of a question that i read recently that asked was Jesus in the Old Testament...and this verse seems to answer that...

Thanks, daughter of man, I'm having the best day I've had in a long time!

What amazed me is verse 13 where God tells Abram about the Israelites being held slaves in Egypt. I've always heard the story of Moses but never realized God told Abram about that!

I wanted more insight into the Tower of Babel so I read a few articles. One article suggested that God confused their speech because they were gathering in a city and disobeying His command to spread out on the earth and populate it. So, He confused their speech and they had to gather in groups of people who spoke the same language.
Personally, I've always thought God confused their speech because they were trying to get to heaven by works.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
Thoughts?
God Bless

Sorta like Divide and Conquer....

Forgive me for jumping in, just felt the need to add that
