Time to move on to Genesis 38. Here's a link: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2038&version=NLT

I picked a modern language translation for this chapter because the weights are just shocking. That's over a ton of gold! I can't even imagine!

i'm glad he gave the right pronunciation of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]tim wood...i was sayin' it all wrong

and yes, that is LOTS o' gold!

I missed yesterday! I guess we'll make Genesis 39 the 21st's chapter. Here's a link:
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus 39&version=NLT

I may miss some more days... please pray that I can keep up with all of this. in the next 2.5 days I have to pack all my stuff, clear my room, pass a drive test, heckle with the DMV, pack all the books I'll need for the next while, wash a bunch of laundry, grind a bunch of flour, weed the plants, celebrate a birthday (hopefully I won't have to bake a cake!) in addition to all the cooking and dishes and my brother wants me to make some meals and freeze them... it's a little overwhelming. The fact that I have migraines this time of month won't help.

I'll try to post if I get time. Thanks.

Hugs Grace, you have a full plate. Thank-you for starting this Bible study, despite your busy life. I'm sorry to hear you have migraines, I'll keep you in my prayers.

I will try to post when you can't. However, I've had serious health issues myself and was hospitalized two weeks ago for week with heart problems.
If you end up baking that cake, you could always send me a slice to pay me for my time *grin* just kidding
All kidding aside, this Bible study is important to me so I want to help it succeed :)
Take care and God Bless,

Exodus 39:

In verse 7, well this is just precious...the precious stones are a "memorial" to the children of Israel...what a precious thing for God to do....what a precious God He is....

7 And he put them on the shoulders of the ephod, that they should be stones for a memorial to the children of Israel; as the Lord commanded Moses.

This gives me pause to meditate on what "holy-ness" really means...hallowed = holy

9 And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.

Brinny, I did some research and, after reading several articles, I found this article to be the most biblical definition of holiness. I hope it's helpful to you :)

"Question: "What does the Bible say about holiness? What does it mean to be holy?"

Answer: In 1 Peter 1:13-16, Peter writes to believers, "Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.'" Peter is quoting from Leviticus 11:44 and Leviticus 19:2.

First, let's look at God's holiness. What does it mean that God is holy? Passages like 1 Samuel 2:2 and Isaiah 6:3 are just two of many examples of passages about God’s holiness. Another way to say it is absolute perfection. God is unlike any other (see Hosea 11:9), and His holiness is the essence of that “otherness.” His very being is completely absent of even a trace of sin (James 1:13; Hebrews 6:18). He is high above any other, and no one can compare to Him (Psalm 40:5). God’s holiness pervades His entire being and shapes all His attributes. His love is a holy love, His mercy is holy mercy, and even His anger and wrath are holy anger and holy wrath. These concepts are difficult for humans to grasp, just as God is difficult for us to understand in His entirety.

Next, what does it mean for us to be holy? When God told Israel to be holy in Leviticus 11 and 19, He was instructing them to be distinct from the other nations by giving them specific regulations to govern their lives. Israel is God's chosen nation and God has set them apart from all other people groups. They are His special people, and consequently they were given standards that God wanted them to live by so the world would know they belonged to Him. When Peter repeats the Lord's words in 1 Peter 1:16, he is talking specifically to believers. As believers, we need to be "set apart" from the world unto the Lord. We need to be living by God's standards, not the world's. God isn't calling us to be perfect, but to be distinct from the world. First Peter 2:9 describes believers as "a holy nation." It is a fact! We are separated from the world; we need to live out that reality in our day-to-day lives, which Peter tells us how to do in 1 Peter 1:13-16.

Finally, how can we become holy? Holiness only results from a right relationship with God by believing in Jesus Christ as Savior (accepting His gift of eternal life). If we have not placed our faith in God's Son alone to save us from our sins, then our pursuit of holiness is in vain. So, we must first make sure we are born-again believers (see John 3). If we truly are believers, then we recognize that our position in Christ automatically sets us apart from the world (1 Peter 2:9). After all, we have a relationship with the living God! Then we must daily live a set-apart life, not trying to "blend in" with the world, but instead living according to God's Word as we study the Bible and grow in it.

We're starting a new book in the bible today: Leviticus.
Today's chapter is Leviticus 1 - The Burnt Offering - The LORD called to - Bible Gateway

An overview of Leviticus from Bible Hub.

"Leviticus is composed of two basic genres Narrative History and Law. It was written by Moses about 1445-1444 B.C. The setting of Leviticus mainly appears to take place at Mt. Sinai. The key personalities of Leviticus include Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu Eleazar, and Ithamar.

It was written to draw the Israelites to the understanding of the infinite holiness of God, and that He desires them to act in a holy manner toward Himself. In doing this, God gives them many instructions to carry out. It describes Moses giving procedural instructions for the Israelites, especially to the Levitical priests, about how they are to carry out offerings, ceremonies, and celebrations. The word “Holy” is mentioned more times in Leviticus, than any other book in the Bible.

• From chapter 1-7, Sacrifice and Offerings are laid out for Priests and individuals in detail. These passages also describe how to use the altar for the sacrifices and the offerings to God.

• In chapters 8-10, Moses describes the instructions for the Levitical Priesthood, since Israel is to be “a kingdom of priests” (Ex. 19:6). He does this from the doorway of his tent. Moses consecrates his brother Aaron and his sons who are the priests.

• From chapters 11-15 Moses teaches the importance and procedures for things that are unclean. These include food, diseases, animals, insects, dead bodies, birth, cleaning and many others. God’s purpose of all this is to protect His people from the illnesses and diseases that come from these sources.

• In chapter 16, Moses gives instruction about the Day of Atonement. This was the day out of the year that the High Priest cleanses and prepares himself ceremonially to meet with God. This ceremony only takes place once a year. The High Priest enters into the Holy of Holies and offers a sacrifice to God for sins on behalf of the entire nation of Israel.

• Chapters 17-27 pertain to the laws that apply generally for living a holy life. These are many laws including sexual immorality, idolatry, land laws, more priestly laws, religious festivals and celebrations, the Sabbath year and the year of Jubilee."

Leviticus Summary

Thank you for the summary.....

in Leviticus I, these verses caused me pause:

14 And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the Lord be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.

15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar:

What strikes me the most is this: If you offer a grain offering of your firstfruits to the LORD Leviticus 2:12
First fruits meant the first born of their life stock. To trust The Lord so much as to give Him the FIRST of your food as an offering WOW what faith! There was no guarantee that there would be a second birth of life stock that year... And no supermarket to go shopping at if they were short of food.
I wish I could say I had that much faith. I pray God gives me the strength to grow in my faith.
