2 Chronicles 11

Rehoboam arrives in Jerusalem and musters Judah and Benjamin. 180,000 men to regain the kingdom from Israel back into Rehoboams hands
However, the Lord has other plans for him. He doesnt want Rehoboam to fight Israel. They obeyed him and turned back from marching against Jeroboam.
Instead Rehoboam builds the defences in Judah and Benjamin.
Rehoboam ended up with 18 wives and 60 concubines with 28 sons and 60 daughters

2 Chronicles Chapter 11

Miss Rowy,

Yes King Rehoboam gathers his forces for an all out civil war but God intervenes.

Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not fight against your brethren: return every man to his house (Verse 4)

During the early part of the reign of Rehoboam he was a good king. He built many cities (Verse 5)

The Levites left Israel and moved south to Judah (Verse 14)

Jeroboan was king in the north and he had cast all the Levites out of Israel (Verse 14)

Jeroboam was evil. He made his own priests and made calves for the Israelites to wordship (Verse 15)

Those that wanted to worship God came south to Jerusalem (Verse 16)

For the first 3 years Rehoboam was a good king and walked in the way of David and Solomon (Verse 17)

For the first 3 years the Kingdom of Judah and its people prospered (Verse 24)

Brinny,

To some extent this is one of the most important chapters in the Old Testament.

The folly of Rehoboam split the Kingdom of Israel into two parts.

The two tribes in the south have survived to this day.

But the 10 tribes of the north that made up Israel have been lost.

They are called the 10 lost tribes of Israel.

The 10 tribes of Israel were lost because Rehoboam took the bad advice of his young friends.
Rehoboam ignored the wise advice of the old men.

I can see it now. The chariot wheels spinning wildly in the dirt and dust as Rehoboam and one or two of the young men make their escape. The horses pounding along frantically as their hoves thundered in the panic to get away. Leaving behind all his valuable belongings Rehoboam lashes out with his wip upon the backs of the snorting horse as they struggle to go faster and faster. The horses breath makes a terrible noise of snorting and panting loudly as they fight for air to get their legs pounding along faster.

Not far behind are thousands of angry Israelites hard on their heels. The Israelites have stoned Rehoboams tribute collector and have got a taste for blood. The Israelites now want the life of Rehoboam.

THE ESCAPE OF REHOBOAM
What a wonderful film scene this would make. With the screaming angry Israelites chasing after on horses and chariots. Their faces screwed up and snarling with anger. Their mouths screaming out curses and oathes about getting thier hands on Rehoboam, and what the will do to him when they catch him.

Whoa!! This is sooooo descriptive, i can almost see it playing out like a movie....

are you a writer?

Sad end to the reign of Rehoboam

2 Chronicles Chapter 12

After 3 years Rehoboam turned against God (Verse 1)

All Israel followed Rehoboam and turned against God.

As a punishment Judah was conquered by the King of Egypt.

The King of Egypt took away all the gold items from the temple (Verse 9)

The temple in Jerusalem had been one of the greatest wonders of the world.

But not any more, the King of Egypt stripped the temple of all its treasures.

King Rehoboam was an unmitigated disaster as king.

Rehoboam split the kingdom, and then lost all the temple's golden treasures.

Rehoboam reigned for 17 years.

After Rehoboam's death his son Abijah became King of Judah.

Miss Rowy,

We dont usually do descriptive writing but I just got carried away with the idea of King Rehoboam dropping everything and making a run for it. In a mad desperate dash to escape the clutches of the screaming rebels and get back to Jerusalem alive.

2 Chronicles 13

Abijah is now King of Judah and he reigned in Jerusalem for 3 years
War occurred between Jeroboam and Abijah
Abijah had 400,000 men and Jeroboam had 800,000
Abijah stood on Mt Zemaraim and told them that the Lord, the God of Israel had given the kingship of Israel to David and his descendants forever by a covenant of salt.
Yet Jeroboam, son of Nebat, an official of Solomon, son of David rebelled against his master
Its easy to say that what the descendants of David had done was totally against what the Lord wanted

Jeroboam attacks Judah with 800,000 men

(This is a dramatisation of a true event that occurred in 2 Chronicles Chapter 13)

There was an atmosphere of nervous apprehension in the camp of King Abijah of Judah as the news came from the forward scouts and spies.

It was as they had feared. Jeroboam had crossed the border with a mighty army of 800,000 chosen mighty men of valour.

King Abijah felt a chill run down his spine, as he realised that his 400,000 men were outnumbered two to one.

It was hopeless odds. The only chance of survival was to talk his way out of this disaster. King Abijah found a suitable vantage point and began to speak the mighty enemy host.

“Jeroboam you know that God gave this land to Israel. This rebel army is not against me it is against God. You have cast out the Levites and priests of the one true God. And you come to war against Gods chosen people worshiping your golden calves. The Lord God is our captain. Fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers, for ye shall not prosper.”

The sound of fighting at the rear of King Abijah’s army halted his speech. His words had failed. Jeroboam’s has sprung an ambush and was attacking from both the front and rear.

The men of Judah cried unto the Lord with a great shout and the priest blew their trumpets. God heard their cry. The mighty hand of God smashed into Jeroboam’s rebel army and to a man the invaders from the north fled in terror.

God was the captain of the army of Judah. God led them to a great victory. Jeroboam’s rebel men suffered a horrendous slaughter losing 500,000 men killed that day. This was a total defeat for Jeroboam and he never recovered from this military disaster.

King Abijah of Judah conquered many of Jeroboam’s northern cities and held them. This victory was God’s victory. It was the mighty hand of God that smashed Jeroboam’s army of 800,000 men. All the glory should go to God.

Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

That is awesome!! I think I will leave this to you because you describe it in a way thats exciting!

Miss Rowy.

I hope that you will continue to post on Chapter a Day.
Your comments have been an inspiration to me.

I think I will continue with the creative writing style but there may only be limited application for the storytelling style of writing.

A million fierce fighting men of Ethiopian attack Judah

(This is a dramatisation of a true story that occurred in 2 Chronicles Chapter 14)

The Ethiopian horde had poured out of Africa and swarmed up to attack King Asa of Judah from the south.

The Ethiopians were fierce fighting men. A million of them surged forward like a human tidal wave to smash the defences of Judah.

The army of Judah was 300,000 men and the army of Benjamin was 280,000 men. The army of King Asa was no match for the approaching host, that was almost twice their number.

Was this to be the end of the Kingdom of Judah crushed under a million marching feet of the Ethiopian horde ?

Would the army of Judah stand, or would they break ranks in panic and run ?

King Asa cried unto the Lord of Israel for help. Asa asked that the God of Israel would remember his chosen people and help them in their hour of darkest need.

“Lord Is it nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.”

God heard the prayer of Asa. God smote the Ethiopians. And the Ethiopians fled.

The army of Judah smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance and returned to Jerusalem.

Asa did that which was good in the eyes of the Lord. Asa took away the altars of the strange gods. Asa did take away the high places, and break down the images and cut down the groves of the strange gods. Yes Asa did that which was good in the eyes of the Lord.

Victorious Asa gets a grim warning from God.

(This is a dramatisation of a true story from 2 Chronicles Chapter 14)

It was hot, hazy and humid in Jerusalem as the noon day sun was beating down. King Asa was relaxing and enjoying a cool drink and remembering his recent amazing victory over the mighty horde of Ethiopians.

This happy moment of tranquillity was broken by a footman with news of a visitor. He was surprised to hear that a messenger from the Prophet Oded had arrived and wanted to speak to him.

The messenger brought a grim warning from God, of what might happen should the people forsake the one true God of Israel.

Asa took courage from this warning. Asa decided to put away the abominable idols from within all the newly conquered cities.

Asa took the title of queen away from his own mother, because she had an idol. He smashed the idol with his foot and burnt the idol. He then decreed that in future all idol worshipers were to be put to death.

Then he gathered the people together and told them of God’s warning.

The people of Judah offered sacrifices of the spoil they had taken from the Ethiopians.

And then the people entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart, and with all their soul.

When the people took this oath they did it with a loud voice, shouting, trumpets, and cornets.

This oath of loyalty by the people of Judah greatly pleased God. And because of this oath, God gave the people rest and peace for the next thirth-five years.

Asa was very wise to heed the warning of God. He literally "saved" his people from God's wrath by being a Godly leader as well as king and "led" them to honor God and spurn and reject all that God found abominable.

Thirty-five years is a loooong time to live in God's rest and peace.

It is a long time and we can go back to the time when the Israelites were leaving Egypt and complaining and it took them 42 years because they distrusted the Lord.

2 Chronicles 15 (I will do the brief outline and then agamemnon can do the extended edition)
Asa reforms. He removes all of the idols from the land of Judah and Benjamin because the Lord requested it. He repaired the altar of the Lord and then assembled all the people from Judah and Benjamin as well as Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon because they saw the Lord their God was with him.
They assembled in Jerusalem in the 3rd month of the 15th year of Asa's reign. At that time they sacrificed 700 head of cattle and 7000 sheep and goats they had bought back from the plunder and entered a covenant to serve the Lord.
