Job’s comforters visit as his plight gets worse

Job Chapter 2

Satan said “ I have been going to and fro in the earth.”

And God asked him “And hast thou considered my servant job.”

Satan replied that if Job’s body was hurt then he would start cursing God.

As a test God let Satan put sores all over Job’s body.

Job’s wife said to Job, “Why don’t you curse God and die?”

But Job refused to say anything against God because of the horrible sores on his body.

Job’s Comforters

Three of Job’s friends came to visit and comfort him.

When his friends saw him they began to weep and wail, they tore their clothes, they threw dust in the air and on their heads.

They then sat on the ground with Job and did not speak for seven days.
Such was the sight of Job’s suffering.
A "key" verse in chapter 2. Interesting to note that not only did God describe Job as having integrity, but someone else did later in the chapter:

Verse 3: "And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause."

Brinny,

Yes God thought that Job was a man of real integrity.

Brinny,

Yes God thought that Job was a man or real integrity.

Yes, and someone else did, and it was a most unlikely person to testify that Job was/remained a man of integrity....

Warning this is not a nice chapter. Job suffers from deep depression.

Job Chapter 3

Job does not speak for seven days.

Finally Job speaks and his spirit is completely broken.

Job wishes that he had never been born.

This chapter makes very depressing reading.

This is not a nice chapter to read at all.

Job's comforters only make things worse.

The depressing comments by Job's comforters make Job even more depressed than he was before.

Job becomes twice as rich as he was before

Brinny and Miss Rowy,

I have read on through the book of Job.

It is a sad sad sad story for the first 41 chapters.

But in chapter 42v10 God makes Job rich again.

God made Job twice as rich as before.

Job became father of seven new sons and three new daughters.

Job's daughters were the most beautiful girls in the world.

Job lived for a further 140 after this.

Job lived a wonderful life and lived to see the birth of his great grandchildren.

God greatly rewarded Job for staying faithful to God.

Yes, it seemed they were attacking him when he was already in raw grief and yes, i am convinced he was depressed...on a scale of 1-10, his would be a 15....

Hey brinny lets skip the really depressing stuff eh? Read the last part of Job where he is rich in Gods love and also happiness.

If i post anything regarding Job in this thread (that i've been posting in since February 14, 2014 @2:44 PM when it started), you can choose not to read it, sister in Christ and beloved daughter of the Most High God, amen?

Was that a "suggestion" you made, or did you just say we ain't gonna read da book of Job? LOL!

^_^

Welcome to the wonderful Book of Psalms

Psalm 1 King James Version (KJV)

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

I love the book of Psalms!! Except I read the NIV version!!
I must ask that when we get up to it i would like to talk about Psalm 119

Miss Rowy,

I look forward to your comments on Psalm 119.

In my Bible it is four pages long. There will be so much to say about Psalm 119.

I am really looking forward to reading the Psalms. I hope that God will bless this thread and all those who read it.

On 9th April we had 203 views on this thread, and I hope they were all blessed and inspired by the beautiful Psalms.

Welcome to the wonderful Book of Psalms

Psalm 2

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

The wonderful world of the Psalms

Psalm 2v9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron;
thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

Lets us remember that in addition to writing the beautiful Psalms King David was also a great leader and warrior. God led David to victory after victory. Under the rule of David the kingdon of Israel reached its widest range. With God's help David expanded the borders of Israel on every side.

Brinny.

It says that the Levites were to be religious leaders and it might be that to lead the prayers the Levites would need to be standing.

Yes even today Jews stand and look up to YHWH and speak to Him.
