Xerxes says he cannot revoke the proclamation exterminating the Jews

Esther Chapter 8

After the death of Haman, all his property was given to Queen Esther.

When King Xerxes was told that Esther was related to Mordecai he gave Mordecai the ring with the kings seal on it so that he could enter the kings presence. Esther put Mordecai in charge of all Haman’s land.

Esther raised the issue of the extermination of the Jews, but King Xerxes said a sealed proclamation cannot be revoked.

The King suggested a counter proclamation that the Jews could defend themselves and take possession of the land belonging to their attackers.

A new proclamation was sent out to all the provinces of the Persian Empire.

The new proclamation giving the Jews power to defend themselves was received with great joy and celebration by all Jews in the empire.

Mordecai left the palace to tour the capital city wearing royal robes of blue and white, a cloak of fine purple linen, and a magnificent gold crown.

Mordecai was met by cheering crowds of Jews full of joy, relief and happiness.

Many people became Jews because the people were now afraid of the great power of the Jews.

Nope, he didn't think it through at all...the "punishment" he was gonna dole out to someone else was used on him.....

ironic...

Brinny,

I have enjoyed studing the Book of Esther. It was a beautuful love story between Esther and King Xerxes of the Persian Empire.

Of all the parts of the Bible we have covered on this thread, Esther has been my favourite book of the Bible so far.

But sadly we are almost at the end of the Book of Esther and probably we shall finish with Esther on Sunday.

We must then move on to the next Bible story which is called the Book of Job.

All the enemies of the Jews are defeated

Esther Chapter 9

In every Jewish quarter of the Persian Empire the Jews armed themselves in defence against the proclamation of Haman.

Mordecai was now a powerful man in the Persian Empire and so the provincial rulers helped the Jews slaughter their enemies.

The Jews killed 75,000 of their enemies including the 10 sons of Haman (Verse 16).

To celebrate this Jewish victory the Jews remember the day of Purim with mourning and fasting.

Esther Chapter 10

King Xerxes honours Mordecai by making him the most powerful person in the Persian Empire second only to the king himself (Verse 1).

Mordecai is loved by the Jews and he works all his life to do what is best for his people (Verse 3).

The book of Job is pretty intense! It should be good

Miss Rowy,

Yes today we have come to the end of the Book of Esther.

This is a sad day because the Book of Esther is my favourite book of the Bible.

It was really a wonderful love story between Esther and King Xerxes of the Persian Empire.

Tomorrow we start on the Book of Job. Job is quite a big book. It has 43 chapters.

I cannot remember much about the Book of Job but we will find out all about it tomorrow.

I have read some of Job but not all of it. What I do know is that Job goes through some pretty hard times towards the end of the book.
And did you know that Jobs tomb is actually in Oman?

Job loses his children and his wealth

Job Chapter 1

Job was a very rich man and worshiped God. He lived in the land of Uz and had a large family.

Satan suggested to God that Job only worshiped God because he was rich.

As a test God gave Satan permission to take away Job’s wealth.

Job’s donkeys and camels were stolen by raiders, the sheep were struck by lightening, and his children were killed by a flood.

“Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I turn thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Job did not sin by blaming God for his troubles.

Job is one of the most profound books in the Bible. In the very beginning, in Chapter I, there is a "key" that helped me understand the book of Job. It is right in line with this verse, which is what got me to wondering about the book of Job:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." ~Proverbs 9:10

This is the "key":

"There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil." ~Job 1:1

Job’s comforters visit as his plight gets worse

Job Chapter 2

Satan said “ I have been going to and fro in the earth.”

And God asked him “And hast thou considered my servant job.”

Satan replied that if Job’s body was hurt then he would start cursing God.

As a test God let Satan put sores all over Job’s body.

Job’s wife said to Job, “Why don’t you curse God and die?”

But Job refused to say anything against God because of the horrible sores on his body.

Job’s Comforters

Three of Job’s friends came to visit and comfort him.

When his friends saw him they began to weep and wail, they tore their clothes, they threw dust in the air and on their heads.

They then sat on the ground with Job and did not speak for seven days.
Such was the sight of Job’s suffering.

A "key" verse in chapter 2. Interesting to note that not only did God describe Job as having integrity, but someone else did later in the chapter:

Verse 3: "And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause."
