  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Chapter a day from Joshua 15

Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water.

Joshua 15 verses 19

This is a very beautiful quotation form the scriptures of Joshua.

The tribe of Judah were give the land to the west the Dead Sea.
They were also given two springs of water to enrich the land.

Caleb was leader of the tribe of Judah

"Caleb the Son of Jephunneh"

One of the twelve spies sent by Moses into Caanan reported in Numbers Chapter 13:3 "And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel."

In the Numbers Chapter 13 listing of the heads of each tribe, it reads in verse 6 "Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh."

In verse 30 of chapter 13 it reads "And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it."

Caleb and Joshua said the people should trust God and go into the land, the other ten spies said conquering the land was impossible

Joshua 16

This chapter continues to describe how the promised land was divided up.

Verse one describes the borders of the land of the children of Joseph.

Would anyone like to explain what this means when there was no tribe called the tribe of Joseph ?

One of the things that stood out to me was the part about God keeping Caleb strong... This isn't usually regarded as a "miracle" but it's another time where God showed Himself more powerful than natural processes.

Awesome!!!

Re: Chapter 15:

So here we see that Caleb has a daughter, named Achsah, and she is given in marriage to Othniel, Caleb's brother (but he has a different father cuz Caleb's father's name was Jephunneh)

verse 17: And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

Joseph had two sons called Ephraim and Manasseh.

The tribes are known under the names of the two sons Ephraim and Manasseh.

Reading your words here, remind of Jesus words about taking His yoke upon us. Being yoked to Jesus is the only yoke which will see us through our pilgrimage on this earth. Jesus was perfectly yoked to our Heavenly Father and He accomplished His mission.

Thank you for sharing graciesings; you encourage me.

And the verse that really stood out to me was Joshua 17:14

The people of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one allotment and one portion for an inheritance? We are a numerous people, and the Lord has blessed us abundantly."

This just about blew my socks off. Look how selfish these people are! God just brought them out of Egypt and into a land "flowing with milk and honey." And they settled in and they each got a portion, it was a fair deal. The even SAID that the Lord blessed them abundantly! But what do we see them doing? Going and pestering God's prophet to give them a better deal! No, this is not enough. They want more! And THEN Joshua told them that if they want more land, they should go clear some. That makes sense, work for what you have... right? But... that was not enough for them either! Greedy people, God has blessed them and they want more...

like us. We do that, don't we? God has blessed us and we whine for more?

I think I've seen myself do that a number of times. Why doesn't God give me more money? More time? He gave me all these good things but He forgot to make me beautiful. Hey, God, do you have a prophet I can complain to? I think... sadly, if I met a prophet of God, that is what I would do.

When God gives us gifts, must we always want more?

And the friend I talked with yesterday, the one who reminded me not to be judgmental, was right. My first reaction reading this was to criticize the Israelites for being greedy, but I am rarely that quick to condemn myself when I tell God, "You've given me so much but won't you give me more?"

Certainly something to think on.

And Joshua spake unto the house Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only: but the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine.

Joshua 17 verse 18

The house of Joseph was given two lots.

Joseph was the favourite son of his father Jacob. His brothers sold him into slavery in Egypt. But by a miracle of God, Joseph became a very senior ruler in Egypt. And the house of Joseph prospered and became known by the name of Joseph's two sons Ephraim and Manasseh. Perhaps the house of Joseph was given this extra blessing by God, because his brothers had sold him into slavery all those years before.

I've said to myself sometimes: He provides for our need not our greed. I do know He does like surprising us sometimes. He's surprised me a lot with His wonderful blessings. He always seems to give me more than I could ever have hoped for, when it comes to His wonderful blessings. He delights in His children and we delight in our heavenly Father.

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there.

Joshua 18 verse 1

The Children of Israel built a tabernacle to thank God for the Promised Land.

And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance. Joshua 18:2

Joshua Chapter 18 describes in detail the block of land that was given to the tribe of Benjamin. The land of Benjamin was situated between Judah to the south and Ephraim in the north.

Ephraim was one of the two sons of Joseph. North of Ephraim was the land of Manasseth. Manasseth was the name of Joseph's other son.

Re: chapter 18: Again, it's mentioned here in verse 7 that the Levites have no part of the inheritance like the others....makes me kinda' wonder if they ever felt left out because of it....

Verse 7 "But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance:" ~
