  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Re: Chapter 8:

Here verse 1 is sooooo precious, in how God encourages Joshua, and giving him ASSURANCE that HE is granting Joshua victory here..that in fact, He has ALREADY given him the victory:

1 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:

Everyone attacks the Gibeonites

Come unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and the children of Israel.

Joshua 10 verse 4

The 10 neighbouring cities pooled their resources to create a truely massive army to smite Gibeon for its peace treaty with Joshua.

And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were going down to Beth-horon, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them.

Joshua 10 verse 11

The gigantic army of the 10 cites attacking Gibeon was routed by the army of Joshua. The fleeing soldiers were then hit by great hail stones. God sent enormous hail stones down upon the fleeing army from the 10 neigbouring cities around Gibeon. This was a miraculous victory for Joshua and the children of Israel.

Yes Joshua could not have achieved this victory without help from God.

Every victory that Joshua had involved a miracle from God to assist the children of Isreal to take posession of the promised land.

All the kings to the north unite to attack Joshua

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore.

Joshua 11 verse 4

All the kingdoms in the north around the Sea of Galilee joined forces to create a mighty army to attack Joshua, that numbered like the sand upon the shore.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

Joshua 11 verse 23

In one battle Joshua defeated all the kings of the north around Galilee. The kings made it easy for Joshua. Instead of defending their fortified cities they came out and were all defeated in one battle.

All the kings thirty and one

Joshua 12 verse 24

Chapter 12 lists the names of the 31 kings that the children of Israel had to conquer to enter the promised land.

How did a very small nation achieve such a great victory ?

Chapter 12 lists the names of the 31 kings that Joshua had to conquer. This feat was impossible. A small nation could never have achieved this victory without help from God. Possessing the promised required many miracles by God.

Division of the Promised Land

Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritiance; the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel made by fire are their inheritiance.

Joshua 13 verse 14

In Joshua Chapter 13 God divided up the land to the east of the Jordan. God divides up the west bank in the next chapter. All the tribes of Israel were given a block of land except the tribe of Levi.

In Joshua Chapter 13 God divided up the land to the east of the Jordan. God divides up the west bank in the next chapter. All the tribes of Israel were given a block of land except the tribe of Levi.

From the scripture Joshua 13 verse 14, we understand that God wanted the tribe of Levi to live by gifts to the church, and not from working the land. The tribe of Levi were the religious teachers of the children of Israel. This is why the tribe of Levi were not given a block of land, when God divided up the promised land.

Re Joshua 13:

So Joshua is old, and yet, God is telling him that there is much, still, to be done.....i'm wondering if God is leading to the assignment of another leader, because here, in verse 1, it is emphasized by God, that Joshua is old and stricken with years:

"Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed."

Dividing up the Promised Land west of Jordan

And the land had rest from war.

Joshua Chapter 14 verse 15

The tribe of Judah was given the land west of the Dead Sea.

The area given to the tribe is Judah, gradually became known as the area of Judea by the time of Christ.

Re: chapter 14...the commentary was extremely helpful.....i had gotten confused between Caleb and Joshua (i thought it was Joshua speaking)

it's BEAUTIFUL how God honors the boldness of Caleb and how it's emphasized several times how he WHOLLY followed the Lord God of Israel. How precious that must be to God.

Another remarkable detail, is that Caleb was 85 years old and his strength and stamina had not diminished one iota.....reminds me of Moses, and how, even in old age his strength and stamina had not diminished either, till the day when God called him home.

These men were righteous warriors, mon.

One of the things that stood out to me was the part about God keeping Caleb strong... This isn't usually regarded as a "miracle" but it's another time where God showed Himself more powerful than natural processes.

Reading your comments, reminds me Paul's words: For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10.
