The Greek name is Iesous which comes from the Hebrew name Yehoshua or Yeshua which in English is Joshua. So you can call our Lord Jesus, Yeshua, or Joshua. They all mean the same thing.

I am gald that the picture came through for you Monica and Robin. :D It's always been one of my faves.

Monica in the Passion of the Christ the actors spoke Aramaic which was the language Jesus spoke. His name is Yeshua in the movie. Ask most rabbis and they will tell you that this is Jesus' Hebrew name.

The name meads "Yahweh saves."

Christ or Meshiach in Hebrew, Messiah in English means "Anointed One."

So when you say Jesus Christ or Yeshua Ha Meshiach you are saying "The Lord is Salvation the Annointed One." Pretty cool, ay?

Maybe the apostles called Yeshua a possible nick name, "Yeshi." :D

I like that!! :D

I've always wanted to learn ancient languages like that....I'm learning Latin right now, but I'd love to know Hebrew and Aramaic! I wish I had the time, lol.

God bless!

I love to learn foreign languages. I speak Spanish and understand a little Russian.
I have watched the Passion many times and have easily picked up on many aramaic terms and phrases.

His name is lovely.... Yeshua....

Like perfume poured out.....

This song sort of relates to this thread, I think  anyway, it's an awesome song and I love it. Here it is:

'Intimacy'
by Matt Redman

One thing my heart is set upon
One thing that I would ask
To know You, Lord, as close as one
Could hope to on this earth

Intimacy
O Jesus, intimacy
My treasure will be, O Jesus
Your intimacy

To look upon Your beauty, Lord
Your glory and Your heart
To know You close, and closer still
Each day upon this earth

Lord, since the day I saw You first
My soul was satisfied
And yet because I see in part
I'm searching, more to find

How beautiful! I would love to hear this with the music. Thank you Monica!

A teacher once told me that his name in Aramaic was Yosha (Yasha?), and I called him this for a while, even naming him that in early versions of my two Jesus novels. But when I researched I found no reference to this word except that "Yasha" means "Salvation" and is part of what composes "Yehoshua." So they could have called him that as a nickname, I suppose.

I don't use it these days, partly because I found out that it means demon or something in Japanese, and a lot of kids these days are familiar with that term from the anime series, "Inu Yasha." But, interestingly, also a Christian kid's show gave the name Yasha to a boy that helped kids from our world find the baby Jesus. It was either "Flying House" or "Superbook."

I think it's fun that the name Yeshua sounds like "Yes, you are."
When I sing the song, "Isn't he wonderful?" one verse says, "Yes you are wonderful, wonderful, yes, you are," and I can sing, "Yeshua, Wonderful," etc.
At one time I would call Jesus Mr. Wonderful, and he would say, with a trinkle in his eye, "Why do you call me wonderful? Only God is wonderful!"
I found out later that the word used for "good" in the place where Jesus said, "Only God is good" also means "wonderful."

The Priest at my church has visited Israel, and he said that's what they call Him there.....'Ye'shua." With the emphasis on the first syllable, like in the movie.

I almost always call Him Yeshua now.

*sigh* His Name is perfume poured out, yes. Yes indeed!!!!!

As you know Ames that's the way I pronounce His name too, "Ye'shua." I can see that scene right now with His mother Mary calling Him from inside the house while He is working on the table,

"Ye'shua!"

I call Him that name a lot too but I also call Him: Jesus, Jesu, Isa (Gaelic) Yeshi...

Well I already mentioned that in this thread. I couldn't wait to tell you all again! :D

I love His name too!!! :D I usually just call Him Jesus, but as of recently I've began calling Him Yeshua too.
Often during worship I love saying His name... It's just so sweet to say, lol. And what I've found recently is that in conversations with people, I usually say 'God' or 'Christ' or just 'Him'..or sometimes 'Jesus Christ'...but I save His first name for prayer and worship - or writing (like here). I really don't know why!! it's almost like it's something intimate between us...can anyone else relate? Or is it just me? haha....

Can I relate???!!! :D

Yes! :) Is that the case for you too?

For me personally, when I say His name in conversation it almost feels like I'm taking it too lightly...because it's so much a part of my prayer and worship...

I must say you look lovely in red darling. Simply ravishing.

Oh, well thank you ;) :D

Yaaaaaay!!! Group hug!!!! :groupray: With Jesus in the middle. Here's a picture that I found that I thought was a good representation of the fellowship we share here. Looks like all of the brides have a flower for Jesus.

Jesus%20Women-A12.jpg

  A poem from Jesus:

A company of women came, He called them to stand at His side.
A company, yet one and Jesus named them, "Bride."
Radiant was their beauty transcending the angels fair faces.
Wreathed in white roses and golden haired graces.
He took their hands and kissed each one so kindly,
"Come My beloved's! My sister's! Come find Me!
How often a sister you longed for to share the beautiful rhymes?
The pictures and roses I sent, the lovely romantic times.
'Do you see the flowers? I picked them for Him," I heard you often sigh.
'And this picture I have? Do you see Him like that? Do you love Him as I?' "
Sisterly love is My gift to you sweet Brides of the Bridegrooms heart.
From My own soul I gave you each other, My Body you share in part.
Some are older and wiser conquering every fear.
Some are more timid,I have brought your sisters here.
O I have My place with each of you seperate and alone.
But soon I will love you all in My Heavenly Home.
Holy Trinity is Three yet perfectly one
Yes one are We, My beloved's come!"

I love the part in the poem that says, "You each have Me, separate and alone"
This is a need and thirst in me. I must have Him for myself. Even though I am a member of His body, yet I yearn for He and I to have each other, alone, just the two of us. A love between two lovers that is only known just to He and I.
My heart cannot bear to be just a "face in the crowd" or "one of many"... I can't do that. So, while I am part of His body, yet He tells me I am His only one!
