666 is the apex of human achievement; the text in Revelation 13 points out it is the number of a man.
(Apex: highest point, climax; also refers to a pointed piece of olive-wood, the base of which was surrounded with a lock of wool once worn by Roman priests.)
For a person to pursue the meaning of 666 is to ride a horse in search of a horse. To uncover who or what 666 is to embark on a journey of self-discovery & to see who you really are and all that you can be apart from God.

Geomatria is the practice of calculating the numerical totals of names in languages (eg: Hebrew, Latin, Greek) whose letters also represent numbers.
Modern "scholars" have used this practice to identify the Pope, the Roman Catholic Church, Adolf Hitler and European Union High Representative Javier Solana as antichrists (anti, as in, the place of Christ, a counterfeit).
The Pope is considered by Roman Catholics to be God's chosen representative on Earth. Hitler was a scary dude, but he's dead. 666 sticks to Javier Solana like glue. His name in Hebrew is calculated as 666; the WEU recommendation to create his office and consolidate his power is called Recommendation 666 (now Document 666 - see link in signature). Seat 666 in the European Parliament remains vacant (reserved?!?).
Javier Solana's name has been translated as "Bright Light" and "Owner of the new house; Wind from the East." His PhD dissertation (Physics) explored superfluidity; the effect of heat and light on objects frozen near 'absolute zero' temperatures. (by fear?!?)
The Mark

Over the course of history, this
charagma has been figuratively understood as the things we falsely think and/or believe & the evil things we do with our hands.
Looking at the definition in today's light, we observe the practice of branding (engraving, injecting) people with computer chips which enable people to buy or sell. Many government & private employees, & night club patrons have received chips that allow them private access to facilities and the ability to perform financial transactions.
Alzheimer patients and residents in retirement homes are chipped so that they can be retrieved in the event that they wander off. The Digital Angel, aka "the chip that cares," monitors a patient's vital signs and relays these to the internet (w's in Hebrew are 6's - www: 666, a beast?)

Rev. 13:1 (Amplified Version) 1[As] I stood on the sandy beach, I saw a beast coming up out of the sea with ten horns and seven heads. On his horns he had ten royal crowns (diadems) and blasphemous titles (names) on his heads. 2And the beast that I saw resembled a leopard, but his feet were like those of a bear and his mouth was like that of a lion. And to him the dragon gave his [own] might and power and his [own] throne and great dominion.
3And one of his heads seemed to have a deadly wound. But his death stroke was healed; and the whole earth went after the beast in amazement and admiration.

The Lamb-Dragon Beast of Revelation 13 rose from the earth (the few) in the presence (timeline) of the Leopard-Bear-Lion Beast of the sea, the many (see Daniel 2,7). Syria & Turkey were once part of the Greek Empire (the Leopard). The Bear is Persia (Iran), while the Lion is Babylonia (Iraq). Collectively, this Beast ruled for 42 prophetic months (1260 years) with its Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in the court of the Gentiles, suffering a mortal wound in the Battle of Tours (732 AD) which preserved Christianity in Europe. Israel recaptured Jerusalem and the Temple mount in 1967.

We are told in Rev. 19 it was the False Prophet who deceived those with the mark.

Both of them were hurled alive into the fiery lake that burns and blazes with brimstone.
