Speaking of shoo-fy pie, here's my favorite recipe, from the More with Less Cookbook:

Preheat oven to 375º.
Prepare 1 unbaked 9" pie shell.
Cut together with a pastry blender:

• 1 c. flour
• 1/2 c. brown sugar
• 2 T. shortening or margarine

Reserve 1/2 c. crumbs for topping.
Combine in mixing bowl:

• 1 c. molasses
• 1 egg, slightly beaten
• 3/4 c. cold water
• 1 t. soda in
• 1/4 c. hot water

Add crumb mixture and beat together. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle reserved 1/2 c. crumbs on top. Bake 35 minutes.

I use butter instead of margarine.

I recommend Grandma's Molasses for this recipe. It is darker and richer than sulphured molasses, but not quite as strong as blackstrap. It doesn't have so much of that sorghum flavor.

Shoo-fly pie is best served warm with milk or coffee.

I have not had that sin I was 14 (some time ago). I may give it a shot. Thanks

Thanks...but I would prefer that shoofly pie, after supper, with coffee!!!!!! And where I'm from, "shoo" is what we DO to flies...! Now give me a good chess pie or "pee-can" pie, and I'm good to go! (With regular, black coffee...none of that decaff with junk in it!)
