My favorite mystery authors are Robert B Parker and Raymond Chandler. Except for the off color remarks about black people the Chandlers are my favorite. My wife likes Janet Evanovich, and Mary Higgins Clark, but I haven't listened to them yet.

I really enjoyed the Ender Series, and the sequels, that dealt with bean. There is a new one out I think. If you liked those, try the book called "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. That is a great book as well!

See my note above about Tony Hillerman. You and your wife might both like him.

Have you read - I mean listened to - any of his other books? I listened to the first 4 or 5 books of the Alvin Maker series, but couldn't get the last ones on audio. Card has another sci-fi series I started but haven't finished yet. But I think I will soon, if I can get them from the library.

Do you feel frustrated when reading Card that when he creates a cosmology his gods are always way too small? When I found out he is Mormon, that suddenly made sense, but it's still frustrating.

I actually wasn't looking for Christian fiction. I was looking more for books about Christian teaching. Do those come in Audio CD format?
I think so. I have mostly seen cassettes though. The problem with Christian tapes and cds is they seem to way over priced. If I were you I would skim the sites of your favorite teachers and see what they have to offer. Or try Amazon.com and see if they have the books you are thinking of in cd format.

Okay I will head over to the library computer system and see if there is anything in. :) Thanks

No I haven't but my wife has. I never really got into reading/listening until I met her. I am just catching up :)

I find that i have a small mind when it comes to sci-fi. I am forever wondering where God is in any of these situations, the story gets ruined for me. I have enough problems trying to figure out real life let alone, artificial :)

What bothered me about the Giver was the lack of any moral outrage by the average person except for one. As if this was not an inherant trait of all who walk upright.

My favorite Christian writer is A.W. Tozer! I love everything I have read by him. My favorite books by him, though, are God Tells the Man Who Cares and The Warfare of the Spirit. Next would be Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Charles Finney, and I also like John Wesley and Francis Schaeffer a lot.

What does everybody think of the new "health" graphic?

I turned mine off because I don't think how many times a day you post here has anything whatsoever to do with "health."

But I'm still curious about the algorithm. It seems like some people with higher average posts per day have less health than some people with lower. When I first logged on this morning, mine was 100%. As I browsed around a bit without posting, it started to go down. But then when viewing some pages it went back up to 100%.

I don't know about all these fancy do-dads around here. I don't have a pet and I don't collect "equipment." I have a rose which a kind person here  gave me, and told me how to collect. I appreciated the gesture. I guess it's like giving someone blessings, but you know who they came from. But I don't do stuff to get blessings, I don't bank them, etc. I didn't know you could bank them until recently after I lost mine. Then somebody :kiss: told me how to ask for them back. Of all the things you can see about a person, reputation was the only thing that meant much to me. In the discussion/debate forums, I figured out pretty quickly after I joined that the people who posted intelligently generally had about a 10:1 ratio between # of posts and reputation, but that has changed, too. Apparently there used to be negative reputation, and I joined shortly after that was eliminated, so the numbers started to inflate to a point where they are meaningless.

I keep wondering what is the appeal of all these symbols and gauges, ratings & stuff to play around with. Am I just too serious to have a little fun?

Yes. But I'm boring and serious too and don't care much for all the board do-dads either. So we can be boring and serious together. ;)

How do I turn off this health thingy?

 hello, my new friends!!

I hope the Lord has blessed you all richly today :)
I don't mind the new health thingy. I'd be in trouble if there were some sort of strength thingy, like in the video games. I'd be low in hit points - LOL.
I don't have a favorite Christian author, yet. I guess I'm too busy. I homeschool and work full time.
I do read my Bible every morning, well ,most every morning. I might miss one day a week. And that day I usually feel it. It's like having a meal. Some days it's breakfast, a great way to start the day. Some days it's lunch, just the thing I need to keep going. Some days it's dinner, just what I need to grow on. And some days it's dessert, just good and sweet, and for nothing more than to make me happy. I love the Lord and I love His word
