No data then? I understand as it's rather hard to hold to the doomed and gloom narrative when the facts show the exact opposite. Unless a decline in poverty, war/violence, and the eradication of once devastating disease are gloomy prospects to you.

We have turned our problems into business opportunities, and voila, they disappear. The 600-plus pound freaks whose lives are in shambles become reality show stars whose grotesque images entertain millions and enrich hundreds.

If enough people earn a living from such they are no longer problems but valuable resources.

It would appear, you have your own personally colored glasses you look through.

I do. They effect a rather gloomy image of mankind. :(

Did you mean to post this little tirade someplace else? I don't see how it is an answer to the facts I presented.

I do. They effect a rather gloomy image of mankind. :(
That has little to do with the actual state of affairs.

You have inferred 'tirade'.

That has little to do with the actual state of affairs.

Looks are often deceiving. As soon as we solve one problem two more take it's place (not to be read as an exact equation).

By all means demonstrate how the world is actually getting more violent and poverty is on the increase.

Those aren't the only problems we have, and, are not a measure of our problems.

Are those the only problems we have?
Getting those things under control, along with food security are vital for humans to thrive. They are all improving and likely at the best that they ever have been.

What problems are you so concerned with that you're ignoring the improving state of humanity?

I see a species marching to hell in an organized manner.
I see mankind for the most part doing the best he can considering what he has to work with. It all depends on where you choose to look huh? I also suspect in this case, what one see will often say more about who is doing the looking than what is actually there

Do you think these statistics have improved? How many people died in such crashes 100 years ago. How many were injured?

Road Crash Statistics

Also,

Humans are living longer than ever. But we aren't necessarily aging well.

It shows that I am a more astute observer than most. The devil is in the hidden details. :D

This of course is nonsense. If I were to make a 'human progress graph' it would look like this,

Where we were ====
Where we are =========
Where we should be ==========================

You are very devoted to pessimism.

Realism. I'm like the football coach who looks to improve his team by identifying and correcting weaknesses. :D

Based on what?

Based on what we know. For example we know that overeating causes problems, yet we overeat. On my graph the "Where we were" people didn't overeat and thus didn't suffer the diseases attributed to overeating. If people reduced their food intake they could be on the "Where we should be" graph. As it is we are on the "Where we are" graph, overweight with the attending disorders.
