  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well there you have it the arc would hold 70,000 animals and float.Quite remarkable when its been suggested that there was 35,000 animals types around at the time.Coincidence or what

For about 10 seconds, sure.

The survivability of the Ark was once tested by a group of Korean shipbuilding engineers.

Safety investigation of Noah's Ark in a seaway - creation.com

They tested their model in a wave tank at the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Engineering and it did quite well. They concluded it could've survived high winds, and waves up to 90 ft high.

However, did they make it without using nails? Noah's ark was held together with resin, plus, did they fill it up with the weight it would have had to carry? Did they seal up the wood using any modern methods impossible at the time of Noah? Was it the actual size of the ark in the story?

If you want to know more, I suppose you could peruse the article.

That's amazing. Especially since in the real world any wooden ship of that size would break apart under it's own weight.

For example, some of these ships benefited from substantial iron or even steel components since the flexing of wood members can lead to significant leaking as the wood members become longer. Some of these ships were not very seaworthy, and a few sank either immediately after launch or soon thereafter.

But apparently this magical design can withstand waves that would be a huge issue for modern powered vessels.

I did, lots of the information is still missing. Probably because it is North Korea, which has a history of faking such achievements.
Good grief, are you lazy? Anyone can find out with a couple of clicks that the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering was in Daejeon, South Korea. It's now called the Maritime & Ocean Engineering Research Institute.

Thanks for your opinion, but these guys were shipbuilding engineers who designed ships for a living. Yes, they realized it had to be made of wood, designed a frame-and-plate structure, and then did a "wave load analysis" on it, whatever that entails.

Or, you could just peruse the article and learn that yourself.

Or we could just recognize two things:

1) The Noachian flood never happened, in which case an ark was never built. So the point would be moot.

2) The Noachian flood did happen, in which case I don't see how it would be that hard to believe god helped the ark with a miracle. You can't argue with magic. So, the point would be moot.

I could, but if the articles conclusion are bunk on the face of it why would I bother? If I actually thought refuting any of this information would be worth my time I might try, but I find it doubtful it would be.

Third for you maybe.

It would be about my fifth.

I personally don't believe the Ark was a TARDIS booth; but then I don't think nearly as many animals got on board as some say had to.
The total number of non-bacterial and non-archaeal species in the world has been estimated at 8.7 million, with previous estimates ranging from two million to 100 million.

If we assume the smallest estimate of the number of species and assume the smallest possible pairing on the ark (2 instead of 7), and if we assume that a new species cannot evolve from the survivors of the flood, then our underestimation is that we need space for 4 million animals.

I'm not quite sure where the believers are getting these ridiculously low species estimate numbers from...I'm not terribly surprised that they're bad at math.

No coincidence. The writers Genesis had vivid imaginations as to the magic God performed. With all things imagined God is capable of doing.

Not all things written have actually happened. Think of the movie Noah.

Is there a link missing to this post? Where does this 70,000 number come from?

The shape of the ark and it's stability in waves is not the problem. The problem is a wooden keel is not able to support a massive vessel like the ark. The keel would snap if it hogged a 20 foot swell (hoggin is where the wave is at the middle of the ship with both ends of the ship out of the water). Obviously, the Korean experiment did not test this aspect of the ark.

Or you could show us where they built a 400 foot long wooden boat with a wooden keel loaded with animals, and how it was able to go over 30 foot swells?
