Um, yes, I consider most of what's in boards like Philosophy, Ethic & Morality, and Politics to be debates. Some threads start out with people just expressing their thoughts and pondering, but most spin into debates pretty quickly. This one did on page 1.

When I speak of a debate, I am speaking of usually two people, one presenting an argument and the other presenting their argument to an audience of people in strict accordance to a timed, structured format.

To explore reality through debate is about as sensible as doing it via popular vote.

Actually, I have done that, just not in a debate format, and I have provided those links in previous exchanges.

The issue at hand is your ability (or inability) to defend your views. I don't have a pony in this race. Don't try putting the burden of evidence on me.

Which means you do not have to waste your time and reply to this post. I will not be answering unless it is to accept an invitation to debate you.

Why not put everyone on ignore and declare victory?

IOW a showfight in which the two persons who have already settled for a conclusion compare their debating skills that they themselves are so impressed with that they feel they deserve a rapt audience.
Nothing more.
That´s about the worst condition for anyone gaining any insight. It´s about defeating the other. I could as well watch a box fight.

Man interacts with the world and creates meaning through relationships. The more depth of interaction, the more meaning. Thus, men interacting with other men has the possibility to be more meaningful and emotional than men interacting with inanimate objects. What do Christians do to have greater faith? Read the Bible. Look for signs. Talk to other Christians. Perform rites. What they're doing is interacting and creating meaning. The universe doesn't have meaning, but individual men do. It isn't convenient, it isn't comforting perhaps, but that's the way it is. And I don't think this has anything to do with atheism or theism. This is about man.

To be honest, the first time I read the OP I was somewhat confused and a perturbed . I even doubted for a moment my own comprehension of what I was reading, so to be charitable I endured this diatribe in disguise twice again to remove most my doubt.
My confusion and agitation has now made way for humour, shear joy and entertainment.
