Yup, most things noadays do. I run my spy ware stuff and that keeps me okay. Most pop-up blockers have spyware too. Kinda in the "takes one to know one catagory". Selective spyware blockers.
You can hear it runing in the background.

not always, theres registery files that aren't in the cookie file. I used ad aware and keep my windows updated.

I think (not sure) that most anti-spyware programs can be used with either. I use Adaware, and Spyware Doctor. That one I had to pay for, but it works really well.

I dunno, I've always used windows.
I would go to the lavasoft site (adaware, it's free) and see if they have one for your OS. And update your OS at their web site too.
