  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. -Rom 14:17

There's a progression there. First comes righteousness. Not self-righteousness, but right standing with God that is an unmerited free gift through Christ.

For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. -Rom 10:3
and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— -Phil 3:9

Php 3 goes on to say how Paul forgets what went before and presses on to the high calling. Right-standing leads to peace, and peace leads to joy. If you doubt your righteousness in Christ, you short-circuit that progression. But to do so you have to elevate your sin above Christ's sacrifice. What possible basis is there for doing that? None. Christ as perfect man paid our debt completely. Christ as Son of God overpaid our debt and elevated us far above anything our original father Adam could have attained. There is no power in the universe greater than the blood of the Lamb. It is the very vehicle of God's love.

God has not given us a spirit of fear (2Tim 1.7). This is not of Him. Rather, He has set us free from the fear of death and the bondage it brings in this life (Heb 2.15). You need only accept it. Don't put feelings or past performance first. Accept it as truth. Commit yourself to it, establish your heart in it, build your life on it. In time the feelings will come. Don't give up on God. The meek and lowly One will not reject you. Only come sincerely and you will find rest (Mt 11.28-ff). The Author is also the Finisher (Heb 13). He who has begun a good work in you will complete it (php 1), and will work all things for good (Rm 8.28). Fear not; only believe.

I was saved but feel i threw it away. God gave me a dillusion thinking i was saved and could go on sinning. I was a hypocrite and feel like he gave me a reprobate mind. Im desperately trying to seek Him again. Once He removed the dillusion, i saw what i did and flipped out

Perhaps you fell into a delusion, but this was not God's will. Lamentations 3 tells us He does not afflict willingly.

I'm not trying to minimize sin. Sin is a big deal. It is incompatible with the nature of God, and if we cling to it with deep knowing and purpose it will prevent us from being reconciled to Him.

But sin has been dealt with. And now, on the other side of the Cross, you cannot out-sin God's grace. Mercy triumphs over judgment. There are always consequences for our decisions, but God is relentless. He values the sacrifice of His Son very highly indeed, and He is not going to let you slip away from it without a major fight.

I think you need to make a decision to accept the free Gift. Once you do that, everything else will fall into right perspective. You made a mistake. You repented. In taking you back, God exalted His love and mercy beyond anything of which you could have dreamed. And now, because He first loved you, when your performance was quite unlovable, you love Him all the more, and will never make the same mistake again.

That is the way forward. That is the way to redeem your mistake. God will use it to equip you to minister to other souls who make the same mistake. "A righteous man is barely saved." Make a decision to leave the past errors and any thought of self-righteousness behind and to get on with your new life in God. You're compounding the error with lost time and opportunity. And God will call us to account for how we use what He has given us. We don't have the luxury of wallowing in past failings. That's why Paul says he presses forward.

If I and some others here think your soul is worth more than your past failings, don't you think God would feel this way as well? Or are we more compassionate than He?

Baby v. bathwater. Get some godly perspective. Don't let the devil mess with you any more. Sound mind. Enough is enough. Tell the enemy to take a hike, and you receive Christ's forgiveness and love.

Stop it. That is nonsense. You are taking things way out of context. Everyone fails. Every single one of us. It's not about our sin, it's about Jesus. It's all Jesus. Stop making yourself a statistic.

I feel i was born again but basically never fully submitted. I dove head first into sin. Everytime I open the bible now it takes me to condemning verses. Parable of the sower... cares of this world choke the word of God out of the heart.. also hebrews 6.

Yes, I understand how you're feeling and why you are feeling as you do. But you seem to be largely deaf to the things I'm saying to you. You've also not bothered to answer my questions. I ask them because I think in answering them you might come to a better understanding of God and what it means to be a Christian and come thereby to a place of peace.

I have met some folk who massage their fears and obsess over them, treating them like a favorite pet rather than something they want truly to be free of. They share their fears and garner sympathy and attention from others, which is rather gratifying. Their anxieties and fears make them special; these things make them stand out. Resolving their anxiety, then, would mean the loss of the attention and concern of others. And so they make it impossible for anyone to really help them. I'm not saying this is true of you, but it might be worth looking inward and examining your motives for posting. You seem to me to be in a thought-rut you don't appear entirely eager to abandon.

Hebrews 6:4-6
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

Imagine you have been trying to fix the brakes on your car. The repair manual you've got lays out exactly how to do the repair step-by-step. You've followed the manual through the first two steps but find the process tedious and painstaking. You begin to think to yourself, "Surely there must be another way, a better way, to repair the brakes on my car." The manual clearly states, however, that the procedure it lays out is the only correct way to make the brake repair. But, you've decided not to trust the manual. You're sure you can come up with a better way to make the repairs. So, you put the manual aside and begin to work at the brakes your own way. Catastrophe soon follows. Nothing is fitting together right. You manage to damage a couple of the brake pad clips. You've lost some of the nuts and bolts. Now, you could go back and resume following the steps in the repair manual, but you're convinced that the manual is wrong. So, you just continue on making more and more of a mess of things.

This is what the writer of Hebrews is saying when he writes of those who fall away being beyond a renewal of repentance. Salvation and the opportunity to repent are not withdrawn from the person who "falls away" any more than the repair manual has been withdrawn from the guy working on the brakes of his car. Any time the repair guy wants to follow the manual again he can. But he has chosen to believe that the answer to his problem cannot be found in the manual. And so he is cut off by his own choice from the help it offers. So, too, with the person who has heard the Gospel, the way of salvation, and has rejected it. Salvation is always available to such a person, but it has become for the person who has fallen away like the rejected repair manual in my analogy.

You are not thinking at all like the person described in Hebrews 6. The person in Hebrews 6 isn't pining for salvation, he isn't looking back and thinking regretfully to himself, "Oh, I wish I hadn't done that!" No, he continues on away from the Gospel without a concern in the world. And this is why he can't be renewed again to repentance.

Well, as I pointed out in my last post, you don't have to fear the fate of one who has fallen away. You desire to be brought back into fellowship with God, which a person who has truly fallen away does not desire. So, why the crippling fear? What's the truth? That's the cure for your fear.

I guess the fear is that God wont restore me. The truth is that God wants me to be obedient and will restore me on His time if/when He pleases? Im not 100% because of the verse that says all that will be left is a fearful expectation of judgment and a fire that will consume the adversaries. Thats what I feel.

Why wouldn't God restore you?

1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Every sin you will ever commit Christ died for on the cross. Payment for all of them has already been made in full. God is completely satisfied with the atonement Christ made for you and all of humanity on the cross. So, why do you think God would wait to restore you to fellowship with Himself? Did the father in the parable of the Prodigal Son do that? No, he was looking for his son to return and when he did, the father rushed out to meet him and embrace him!

Yes, God wants you to be obedient - but because you love Him and in His strength. You can't ever be who God wants you to be on your own. Only God can make you godly. So, trying to be obedient so God will restore you makes no sense.

Why is the verse from Hebrews 10 what you're focusing on? It isn't talking about you! It is talking about a person who has no concern or regret at all about walking away from God. And it is because they feel this way that they stand under God's terrible judgment.

Go back and read the verses that have been offered to you in this thread. And when your fear rises up, resist it with the truth. Your fear, you see, is the result of not knowing the truth about God's love, mercy, and grace which He extends to you in Christ.

Thanks. I like that quote. Do you constantly think you committed it? Like it freaks you out all the time? My thing is that I was born again and felt comfortable going back to my filth while judging others. I would hate to think I threw away such a beautiful gift.

Yes I did feel this way. The fear almost destroyed me. I saw no point in living and wanted to die.
I have to keep trying to not let it overwhelm me because when the fear is that overwhelming, I don't want to live. It's a conscious effort to keep going and not let myself sink back to that level again. It's not easy and I don't know how I do I do it but somehow I do.

One thing that did really help though was a by of a revelation I had, and I like to think that it was God who helped me to see this.
Have you ever heard the advice that those who commit the unforgivable sin don't care that they have committed it, therefore the fact you care is proof you haven't? Well I heard that advice many times but didn't believe it. Then I had this light bulb moment that suddenly showed me how true that advice really was!

You see I used to be very opposed to God and Christianity. I used to mock my mother and Grandmother's beliefs. I was a very evil person in general really. It wasn't so much that I didn't believe in God but more like I didn't want to believe in him. Whilst I was living this way, I never once had a single blasphemous thought. I rarely thought about God at all unless I was mocking him. I rarely thought about salvation either.
It was only when I gave my life to Jesus properly that the fears of the unforgivable sin started. Then the blasphemous thoughts started. When I wanted them to stop they just got worse, the fear got worse! When I truly wanted to be closer to God these thoughts and fears tried to stop me. But when my heart was very far from God and I was claiming to be an atheist, I couldn't care less. Do you see now how when you are truly living apart from God, you really don't care? I was in danger of being too hard hearted to ever want to come to Jesus and ask for forgiveness and I just didn't care at all!
It's only when you know how much you need him and want to be with him that you worry. Therefore your concern is proof that you are not beyond hope. Jesus said so himself. He will not turn us away if we come to him and to come to him we have to care enough to do so. Do you see how it all makes sense?

I hope this helps you.

And besides all that where in scripture do you believe that there is such a thing as "unpardonable sin"?
I struggle with fear of he I unpardonable sin too, Matthew 12:31-32, Mark 3:28-30(?), Luke 12:10
