There are some Churches out there that say it is a terrible sin to drink.
not just getting drunk but any at all.
when confronted with verses in the Bible that Jesus made wine at the wedding and drank wine himself, they try and say that it was nonalchoholic wine.

has anyone got any thoughts on this!

Oh dear! I've just had a strong drink ........................of water!

For the "literalists" what about Matt 26:27 KJV "Drink ye all of it!" Binge drinking!

There is a story of a country preacher told by S. Lewis Johnson, Jr (USA?) who thought that the "all" referred to the wine and his Church had a large chalice and a small congregation. So what was left he HAD to drink! So the KJV believes in binge drinking!
Actually it should have been translated drink from it, all (of you). :amen:

Well, there are churches (the ones that go for literal-and not symbolic-transubstantiation) that do believe you need to finish it all up.

Have a friend that enjoys it when they hold communion with a small congregation, the clergy ask for his help.

I oughta find me a church that believes you need to finish all of it, but don't give a hoot if you believe in literal or symbolic transubstantiation. :yum:

Jesus (and others) drank wine, presumably because the water was not drinkable. However, I like to drink....occasionally!! I find no sin in it.....and the Bible states only that drinking to excess should be avoided. Actualy, I think it says something about drunkards being fools?? Not sure....but it is rather foolish to drink to excess -- hangovers suck! ;)
