• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Telling Someone about Jesus

I was talking to one of my non-christian friends today and the subject of christianity came up. Like I said, she's not a christian and has definitely back slid from when she first started going to church and tried to beleive. She said she'd stopped because she found it pointless. So I was calm and all talking to her and she kept coming up with reasons why christianity was dumb.
After about an hour of her saying what she was taught and me defending with what I was taught it turned out that if it wasn't for what her pastor/preacher/etc beleived then she wouldn't have grown up learning what I think is wrong. She's pentacostal and I'm baptist so that's where it started. Like the issue of once saved always saved which they don't beleive in and I do, or that if you don't ask forgiveness one more time before we die that we'll go to hell.
I started getting frustrated because she'd say something and having nothing to back it up. Then she wondered why she was defending something she didn't beleive in anyway. And now I'm just all flustered and I don't know what to do. I mean, I'm not going to say "I give up, I tried to tell her but she wouldn't listen." but it's like she just won't listen.

Can someone help me? Thanks.

Being a Christian is not about doctorine so much as it is about the grace of God and being a new creation in Christ. So it is more important to share our testimony and witness with people. That is we need to share with them the power of God, His grace and the work He has done and is doing in us and in our lives.

What is going to have more impact. To say I went to church and I learned this doctorion. Or to say I was in bondage to sin, but God came into my life and set me free so now I live in liberty? Or perhaps to say I was sick onto death but God healed me and if the healing power of God had not moved in my life we would not be here having this conversation.

In all we do, we should do all to bring honor and glory to God.

Does your church have a youth group?
That was my main problem, finding a pastor I could listen to and could keep me interested in learning instead of boring me to death quoting scriptures. Our youth group has two leaders on is 32 the other is 17, it's the prefect mix, someone who can identify with the youth and someoen older to offer further guidance when needed.

There is a reason why people live in rebellion towards God. I don't know why your friend is choosing to do so. Your responsibility is not to debate her until she screams from frustration. Instead, your responsibility is to love this person like Jesus would. Live your life for Jesus, and let them see what good comes from it. Your lifestyle will speak volumes to this person, and to all others you come in contact with. Pray for this person, and if you feel lead by God to discuss it again with them, then go for it, in love. Peace

St Francis said, "Preach the gospel everywhere you go. Use words, if you have to." By that, he meant that we are to live out the gospel in front of people by living out Christ's teachings.

You want them to think God is merciful? Be merciful!

You want them to know God is loving? Be loving!

You want them to understand that Christ is a man of peace? Be peaceful!

Show them what God is like by reflecting his character in your actions. Be God's mirror, and they will be able to see him for maybe the very first time.
