  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

No, not the political party. This is ink and wash 11x14 on synthetic paper. I had a hard time with the hot plate. It's made like a little wood half pallet tacked together. Hope the texture is ok. There's a self portrait in there of my ragged claws.

This really works for that medium. I love the metallic effect. It must use a lot of ink though! I know you got the bulk Yupo, but how often do you have to buy ink?

Do you know of anyone else working in this medium often? These grayscale scenes, still life, portraits, etc. lately have been great. They are easier to read than the color landscapes.

Thank you :) You would be surprised how long the ink lasts. Every black and white I uploaded here was all out of the same 1 oz vial of Liquitex Acrylic Ink. I m sort of frugal with how much I dispense on the palette at a time since it dries quickly. Plus alot of the lighter washes are just diluted with water. The yupo doesnt absorb the ink so the coverage is pretty opaque. I image more absorbent watercolor paper or cardboard would suck up alot more ink.
There isn't many people doing Ink and Wash from what I can tell. There are only a handful of youtube videos on the subject compared to any of the popular mediums. There aren't many books either except for the more stylized sumi- e style painting. Colored inks are becoming popular for paper marbling and I do know a guy who posts on wetcanvas who paints full color almost hyper realistic landscapes in colored acrylic ink.
Thanks again!

That makes sense from the times I tried Yupo. But the downside of that is it tends to run away from you! that is why these are so impressive.

There is a market opening for your own book! Or the Youtube channel if it catches on.

That's the idea :) I have enough start to finish step by step washing drawings now and a lot of illustrations on subjects like materials, texture, and composition, so I'm not too far from having a book. I have most of the genres covered: portrait, still life, landscape (woods, ocean, and mountains) , urban (architecture) animals, abstract. No figurative yet-still debating if I should or shouldn't ) I've researched publishing on amazon and the other platforms and its really accessible. They offer print on demand services so the books don't get printed until purchased. You can also offer digital copies for various e reader platforms. You can have them apply for an ISBN # or you can apply on your own. B&N and other book sellers have similar programs. It doesn't cost anything to publish either. Amazon just keeps a percentages of your sales and of cause charges printing fees. Some of the e books can be designed to include video demos..

Yes, I have watched several Youtube discussions of that publishing option. And some made steady passive income on coloring books, etc. on Amazon.

In some cases they make color lineart for card games, etc. then publish the plain line art as a coloring book.

That is great you are looking in that direction.

There was one guy that was just selling daily planners. Another idea (it's probably already being done) is to publish anthologies of public domain fiction, or newly illustrated classics, or illustrated volumes of poetry. If you could find prominent jurors you could even publish juried art books like Strokes of Genius. You can pay the jurors with the submission fees. When I posted in the amazon self publish forum my query was answered by 4 people who were selling eBooks on self publishing. I figure a good strategy for publishing would be to then pay to advertise your book on specialty forums like Wetcanvas, Deviant art, or Pinterest or even on Facebook Marketplace.
