Yes, I love her for this- getting people involved to perform their civic duty, and this is what David Byrne also has been doing, except with a ton more talent than Swift IMO.He's just mad because Swift is encouraging young people to register to vote, and most of them aren't going to vote Republican. So they are mad, instead of being self-critical and asking why young people wouldn't want to vote for them in the first place.
Beato complains about this as well. It takes the honesty out of the production. It becomes too perfect. No soul. Less genuine.I've been paying attention to the British guy Wings of Pegasus because he concentrates on auto tune and pitch correction.
"Those dang kids and their _______ music!" has been a rallying cry for every generation. The truth is that every generation has a lot of garbage music - we just forget it over time, and only remember the winners. When I was a child they said the music of the 60's and 70's showed a society in decline.
That sounds about right. I think that's some of the best music! Blaming music is as old as, well, music. Plato thought the Ionian, Lydian, and Mixolydian modes should not even be used; they created the wrong sentiment in people. If the music was too complicated, it was not good for the state. Simple music in a Dorian mode, however was good for people and the state. LolWhen I was a child they said the music of the 60's and 70's showed a society in decline.
Right! That is my whole point! We have to allow the young folks to have their say. This song was popular back in the day, but I see it is relevant even today."Those dang kids and their _______ music!" has been a rallying cry for every generation. The truth is that every generation has a lot of garbage music - we just forget it over time, and only remember the winners.
My grandfather used to call rock music "switchblade music." Lol. I have no idea where he picked that up. I seriously doubt he ever saw The Warriors or Rumble Fish. Those dang kids and their _______ music
I thought the exact same thing. Black Sabbath comes to mind. ELO also with the song Fire on High....When I was a child they said the music of the 60's and 70's showed a society in decline.
UsIncognito and others correctly pointed out that this is a political issue because she is getting young people registered to vote. Why single out Taylor. We are surrounded by signs of societal decline and have been for years, especially in Washington.
And that is societal decline?UsIncognito and others correctly pointed out that this is a political issue because she is getting young people registered to vote.
Yes. American. And that is societal decline?

I like very little of that.People should just listen to both kinds of music. Country AND Western.
Country is Nashville. But nobody even knows what "western" is anymore.People should just listen to both kinds of music. Country AND Western.
It's really hard to believe this guy wrote this article with a straight face.Taylor Swift's Popularity Is A Sign Of Societal Decline
Audiences and elite tastemakers have decided Taylor Swift's narcissistic lyrics and cliched music are a cultural triumph.thefederalist.com
"Audiences and elite tastemakers alike have decided Taylor Swift’s narcissistic lyrics and cliched music are a cultural triumph — but why would we celebrate this?"
After the last 8 years of unrelenting narcissism, it is Taylor Swift's narcissism which which is leading to societal decline! The deflection is strong...
I agree, but apparently he believes that in his experience he knows more about music than the average person, and Swift just does not live up to what he values in music. Of course the societal decline is just a snappy title to draw people in only to realize he really just does not like Swift's music. It is sad that he tries to make a comparison between Swift and the Beatles....IMO the Beatles were the best and few lived up to them. I think the irony of the article is in his characterization of Swift as a narcissist, while exposing some of his own narcissistic tendencies. It's really hard to believe this guy wrote this article with a straight face.
