  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just to let you know, OreGal, this topic has been discussed quite a bit. It might be worth your while to search it out in the GT forum and elsewhere.

Thanks but I'm guessing there are not many "Christian" topics that have not been discussed ad nauseum in the past. I'm generally interested in what the current posters have to say since I feel like I'm getting to know some of them.

The only reason I brought it up was because this topic can sometimes get very heated.

Just wanted to let you know so that this thread might avoid that fate.

Got it. ;) I am always amazed at what can be a 'hot' topic around the web.

I have a tattoo. I got it more than 10 years ago while in the military. It is not a Christian symbol but something that meant something to me. I don't regret it at all. I've found that it opens the door to communication. I've had teens and adults ask me about it and, from there, a conversation is opened.

I have no desire for another tattoo but I have run into Christians who would like to get them. I don't see anything wrong with them if they are 'tasteful' and 'non-offending'. I am seriously curious if anybody believes it would be wrong to get one as a Christian as I am asked that all the time.

Thank you for the answers :wave:

I'm a VERY conservative person who does not like tattoos.

That being said, there are more important things to fight about.

I have four kids, 3 of them teenagers. If one of them got a tattoo, I would still love them and woudn't make it a relationship breaker. But, I would sure like it if they came to me and asked about it first.

Tattoos, like earrings on guys, I think are usually done in a fit of immaturity. But, still, this is not a battle I would choose to fight on a personal level.

I don't think I personally see the point of tattoos other than the draw attention to your body.. and the people who get them in a hidden place, that baffles me even more because it really serves no purpose what so ever..

I have a tattoo and most people never see it. I did not get it to draw attention to myself. I got it for me, not anyone else. For me and many people tattoos are not vanity, they are an expression of oneself. The purpose of my hidden tattoo is is to remind me of God's love and his care for me. It was my choice and I am happy with it several years later.

Just to let you know, since I've never actually addressed your OP: I have three tattoos myself.

Take care,

If you don't like tatoos, don't get one. If another Christian brother or sister has one, don't judge them. Walk in love.

Tatoos aren't moral issues. They don't determine our salvation (unless of course we tatooed '666' on our noggin :D )
Well Andry I have to disagree. A tattoo in and of itself is amoral in my opinion, like food. But can you go overboard? Sure, just like you can go overboard in eating.

Sean,

Did you mean amoral or immoral? Because you're agreeing with Andry by saying amoral.

Amoral = no moral
Immoral = bad moral

Amoral, my point being a person could have problems with tattoos as much as with gluttony or other things. Obviously the issue here is behavior, not the tattoo. That is my point.;)

OK...now, I have a tatoo and don't think God will condemn me for it. But since I got it, I have been saved and I do wish I didn't have it. It is just a vine of daisies around my ankle but I just wish I hadn't done it. This passage comes to my mind...Lev 19:28 "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tatoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord."
Hi Crystal:

I just wanted to let you know that there is a little bit more depth to the verse in Leviticus, but that is something that needn't be discussed here. Just search it out and you'll hopefully find the reason I bring it up.

Shalom,

Hi there :wave:,

Just wanted to point out that as far as I was aware the verse in Peter said to not let your beauty be merely (italics mine) external... which I take to mean that even though you might have external adornment remember that the more important adornment is that which is internal!

Blue Impulse said:
I guess my objections to tattoos are more secular than religious, but in general I like to remember: Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. (1 Peter 3:3-4, NIV trans.):)

But look foreward to the New Testament. Unless you're Jewish, Acts 15:28-29 applies to you. Tatoos did not make the list of OT laws we have to observe.

"It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell."
