  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm going to a Pentecostal church this Sunday, but I have tattoos, one of them on my wrist, the other above my heart. Should I cover them up? How do Pentecostals view tattoos, what do they think of them? If I wanted to join the church, would I be able to with my tattoos?

Depends on WHICH "Pentecostal Church" you're going to. If it's "Mainline" - like Assemblies of God - chances are that there'll be no issue. Of course "over your heart" would imply a pretty revealing style of dress which would probably be more of an issue then the tattoo itself.

If it's "Oneness oriented" - like the United Pentecostal Church International, they might be less accepting.

I have tattoos that are visible and I go to a Pentecostal church....It depends on the people really....my church aren't fond of tattoos but they won't make a big deal over it
Miss Rowy:

I guess when you eventually go and have yours redone you could always ask some of your friends from church to go with you to the parlor; maybe in this way they would become a bit more used to ink, not just for your sake but for the sake of others with ink who might attend the church in the future. (Two cents.')

Blessings.

...and maybe you'll also accept MissRowy as a Divine mouthpiece to tell you how you must spend your money? :)

It's a matter for the individual conscience before God.

lol you might note i did not tel any one how to spend their money
but rather advised that we "ask God HIS WILL", as this is fully scriptural advice .
our father in heaven hallowed be thy name ..THY will be done on earth as it is done in Heaven .

we are not our own .. we have been bought ,redeemed, with a price so great it is immeasurable .. our life is hid in Christ.we are born again of the Spirit of God to do HIS will ..
so it is perfectly acceptable that we encourage one another to seek HIS WILL rather then encouraging people to do whatever they feel they want regardless of what GOD may be asking of them .

In terms of your exact words this time around, I think I would agree with everything you've said, possible inferences aside.

It depends on the people at the church....And also Australians are pretty relaxed even in a church environment

MissRowy:

Yes, you're right; it does vary from one church to another.

I think you said some of your church friends were taken aback by yours, at least at first.

It also kind of depends on how accustomed people are to vocalizing their every reaction and personal preference or objection, of course.

Another factor might be whether your church teaches the keeping of the OT Law is required of Christians or not.
It's usually the Reformed constituency that does this; and curiously, in garbled way, some of the more militant fundamentalist groups who would simultaneously claim to be dispensational.

I guess if more Christians worked in tattoo parlors, some people's perspectives might change a bit.

I've seen some churches in the Pentacostal tradition (one CoGiC church comes to mind) that taught this way, but in my experience this varies from congregation to congregation and pastor to pastor.

Thats a good point Brian...I know my church worships the New and Old Testament but we don't do the whole militant thing like I have seen other churches do...I think our church is more welcoming in that aspect because there are churches whether Pentecostal or not that will reject people for having tattoos and bodypiercings

So where you go I guess there has never been any question of you being excluded because you're a tattooed woman.

Nope....they know I have tattoos and it doesnt bother them...because I am part of their community...

MissRowy:

Maybe if you were among the first (of women, at least) among them to be significantly tattooed, you may have helped them to see things in a bit more broad perspective, idk.
