  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was just wondering... some friends are planning to get tattoos, and they want me to as well, does the Church have an opinion on this? I'm not sure if this is really mentioned in the Bible or any other documents either directly or indirectly, so if anyone knows I'd like to hear! Thanks :)

The Levitical Law that Moses delivered strictly forbade tattoos. However, we know that in Christ that the Levitical Law with its external code have been replaced by Christ - where cleanliness of the heart is more important than the marks on one's body.

I don't think there is any Church teaching against it, except that you should not get a tattoo that would scandalize another person or for a bad reason: for example, causing you to have undue pride, to make others envious of you, to make others angry because of any words or pictures...and of course, as is the case with some people, make sure the tattoo is in keeping with modesty and respecting the purity of the minds of others.

That's all I think there is to say. Just make sure you REALLY want the tattoo before you let a bunch of friends make you want one. These things are near impossible (and painful!) to erase.

God Bless.

peace be with you.

A few years ago, I was actually thinking of getting a tatoo of a cross on the back of my shoulder. It would have been a great conversation piece and avenue to open the door to speaking about my faith. I never got the money together though.

anyway, tell them if it's not a tatoo of Christ or Mary, then they should save their money. :) All other body art that does not point to God is meaningless.

In Christ through Mary,

PeterPaul,

You should get a big red heart on your bicep that says "Mom", and have the Immaculate Heart of Mary instead. :)

That would be too cool. I think Mary's Immaculate Heart or Jesus' Sacred Heart would be great tattoos. Odds are, most people won't know what they are and would ask about the design, thereby giving you a chance to elaborate. And, let's face it, they are both very cool designs. ;)

I guess the only problem is finding a tattoo artisit capable of reproducing it.

I was thinking of having a small red droplet of blood with "O+" tattood on the side of my neck, hidden underneath my collar. More for practical purposes than artistic. Call me a pessimist. . .but that idea about the Immaculate Heart of Mary with the "Mom" banner is a great idea, as well as the Sacred Heart to match!

My boyfriend has a neat little cross tattoo on the back of his left shoulder. It's not big either. Maybe an inch tall and half an inch across at the horizontal board of the cross. It's black in color and is real simple. I'd like to maybe get one someday.
