  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I know a friends who has to removed her peicings before going to work. If she refused she would have lost her job, so yes, these things can effect employment.

I never said that it couldn't. I think it is stupid that it does.

If there wasn't any risk of STDs from tattoos they wouldn't ask if you've had one done in the last 12 months when at a physical at the doctors. No matter how well you take care of it, that's a risk so hardly what I'd call "perfectly harmless".

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/stats.htm#exposure According to the CDC (Center for Diease Control) it is not enough of a risk to include on the list of exposures. Also, according to the CDC there is not a single record of someone getting HIV or AIDS from having a tattoo from a needle that has been sterilized properly. You are an idiot if you don't ask about the sterilization process or at least watch the artist open a new package. But the same goes for someone that does watch or ask about sterilization when getting a shot from the doctor.

Exactly. Getting a tattoo is no more "threatening" then getting a flu shot from the doctor.

BTW - Shannonkish!

Fair enough, it's one needle, many times.
[/QUOTE]

Actually it is many needles. Most guns use between 3 - 7 needles depending on what colorations you choose. Unless you are getting the tatoo in prison, then it is another story.

I want one, and so does my fiance.. (well at least i think he still does..) i was going to for my 18th, then decided nope, my 20th.. I suspect i'll go with 21st as i don't want it for my wedding...

i want a cross with a heart hung/twisted on it. The words "Love hung on a cross" mean summin to me..

After a LOT of discussion on this topic, i have no problem with it. i can't find verse to say no, or yes... But hings like do everything for the glory of god.

Don't be reading tooo much into the scriptures. It mite just jump out later and bit ur bottom!

I've had mine for about 6 years... it is the same shade it was the day I got it.

:) Yes, the Sun fades it... (tanning beds included) also fades them. Swimming within the first week of getting a Tattoo also fades them (quickly)

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Leave the bandage on either 2 hours or overnight. If you are going to be sleeping on hotel sheets, hey, the bandage is cleaner. Best to wear some sort of cotton clothing that covers it so that if the bandage comes loose in the night you don't end up stuck to the sheet. It won't be funny that you left a print of your tattoo on the sheet when you realise it ripped away a healed layer of skin. With some sort of pj on if you get stuck to it you can go into the shower, get it wet, and gently peel it away.

When the bandage is removed gently wash the area with a mild soap and water, working loose any bits of dried blood or ooze that might be on the surface.

DO NOT REBANDAGE. At this point you want to begin to moisturize your tattoo, and let it breathe. Use UNSCENTED good quality hand lotion frequently and sparingly. The one I personally think is the best is CUREL FRAGRANCE FREE because the main ingredients are glycerin and water. Most hand and body lotions are made of alcohol and oil, and just don't work as well. But the most important thing is that you look at the ingredients in whatever you are going to use and make sure there is NO FRAGRANCE.

Believe me, I KNOW that you are going to have friends tell you to use Neosporin or Bacitracin. Don't do it. They are antibiotics, and they have no healing value unless there is infection present. You will need them if you introduce dirt or germs into the tattoo, but for normal healing you want a moisturizer.

So keep on using the moisturizer for 2-3 weeks, at first I would say it is not too much to put it on once an hour. As soon as the tattoo begins to feel a bit tight or dry, feed it moisture! The more you do, the quicker the skin will heal over. The idea here is to PREVENT SCABBING. A scab will be the pigment pulled up and out onto the surface. Obviously if you want the brightest possible tattoo you want to leave the pigment beneath the surface. The best possible healing will be a couple of peels, like after a bad sunburn, like a snake shedding skin.

Do not pick or scratch at it while it is healing. Don't mess with the crust.

Remember to wash your hands before applying the lotion. If you have handled money your hands are filthy. If you pet an animal and then rub in lotion, eeeuuuuugh, think about where they might have been. Be sensible, remember that it is a wound that needs your help to heal.

If it is difficult for you to clean your hands every time, carry some Purel or another "waterless hand sanitiser" in your pocket. First clean your hands, then rub in the lotion. FREQUENTLY and SPARINGLY.

No direct sunlight for 2-3 weeks. This is absolutely vital with red ink, it can easily develop a photosensitivity and you DO NOT want to experience the intense itch of this reaction. But with every color of ink, even black, the sun is a major cause of new tattoos looking blurred.

No soaking in water, no swimming, hot tubbing, or direct shower water beating on it for 2-3 weeks. Of course you can keep clean, we want you not to stink when you show off your new art, but if the healing bit soaks up water it will be like going swimming when you were a kid and had a scab. Remember how the waterlogged scab would float away.......there goes your new tattoo! Seriously! No surfing, dudes!

If it does get wet in the shower, gently pat it dry , don't rub at it with a towel. Then immediately after getting dried off remoisturize it.

It is up to you to protect your investment. By giving your tattoo proper care while healing you insure that you will enjoy it for the rest of your life. It will age as gracefully as you do.

That's something everyone thinking about a tattoo should consider - how is this going to look in 10, 20, or 50 years from now? Placement can be a big issue there, as certain body parts tend to get especially flabby or stretched or whatever, which results in deformed looking tattoos.
I was reading an article from an obstetrics nurse, who wrote about a lady that had a tattoo of a dolphin placed so that it looked to be jumping out of her "unmentionables". The whole debate in the operating room was over where to cut for the baby to be delivered. Did they save the whale (which is what it looked like at this time) or cut the blubber? They whale was bisected, but the imagry was funny to me.

I don't see much wrong with tattoos either. I got mine before I became a Christian, along with my belly ring. I guess it all depends on your reason for getting one. If you are doing it to prove something to soemone or show off then I think it is stupid. Mine is on my lower back and is a sun with a face. She has a big beautiful smile an dI think it is perfect to my personaility. I would get another and i think I would like Scripture.

In regards to the don't apply Neosporin or Bacitracin.
These products are also used to decrease the chances of a scar remaining when you cut or scrap you. A tattoo is a scar in effect, so if you apply these products they will definately affect the final look of the tattoo.

 I don't know what is going on here

I like tattoos I want one, but my parents would kill me, I think I will wait until I am married :D

BTW a question - why are tattoos wrong? in some cultures they are merely a visible sign of like coming into adulthood or marriage or something. I believe you can believe in God - and still have your culture, as long as you take its aspects and look at them in a Christian way and not in some other god's or religion... so I don't see how tattoos are a sin IMO

*ath signs off scared she said something she shouldn't have* :o

tatoos are just a form of self-expression. think of it this way. our bodies are a temple to god. okay, so let's say you're building an actual temple, or monument, or church, or something like that for god. how would you decorate it? leave the walls bare and unpainted? or would you paint beautiful things on them, reflecting your devotion to god? if you would leave them unpainted, could you understand someone who did paint them? would you think they would be 'wrong' or 'sinful' to do so? i view our bodies as no different. personally, i view it as an act of worship to work out and keep fit. for me, it would be wrong to let myself get too out of shape. but i'm not about to say everyone must work out and stay in shape or they're sinners. it's a personal choice. i choose to worship god this way. others choose to do so by getting tatoos. to each his own.

and, for reference, technically ANY tatoo is a form of worshiping god, by means of the temple analogy i just outlined.

well i think it is a matter of personal choice between the person and God. And it isn't our place as Christians and sinners ourselves to judge others, that is God's area and remember - He is a loving God. Also it is always easier to see the speck in someone elses eye and not the log in our own - that is a scripture dont remember which one :)
