Heh, only if they get too close though, right?

Well... If they share space...

who is your fave spice girl? what's for dinner? how long do you spend in the shower?

I don't know which Spice Girl is which. I'm going to the Distillery (a local restaurant/pub) for dinner after bowling. I spend 15-20 minutes in the shower. I take longer if I cut my hair.

Did you know that you two inspired me to make my own pet rock? Can you see the name of my new pet rock?

Haha! Awesome! I can't see it, yet, but I'm going to guess you named it... uh... Pope Benedict XVI as successor to Peter, or something overtly Catholic like that.

It’s Friday night. The lights are low. You’re lookin’ out for a place to go...where to, rockstar?

In Rochester, you have to make your own fun. Because Rochester has virtually no night life. Not to directly contradict myself, however, I did see the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) last weekend because I have a friend in it. That was cool.

What is one of the most inspiring books you've read?

No question: "Ethics," by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I ate up every word he put down. I wish he'd been able to finish it. :(

Has anyone told you you have rocks in your head? If so, how did you respond?

I would respond by asking, "is one of them Pope Benedict XVI as successor to Peter?" If so, it belongs to Lel, and I'm sure she doesn't appreciate me hanging onto it.

But isn't it cool to have a Catholic pet rock?

It IS cool. And if anybody tells you otherwise, you can tell him I said he was a chump.

what is your spiritual autobiography?

Well, the story is still going, so it doesn't really have a conclusion, but...

I don't remember not knowing Christ. Apparently, when I was very little I would do the eulogies for dead pets. ^_^ I regret, though, in growing up I was never aware of the wealth of theological writings produced by the Church. I greatly dislike the anti-scholarly, anti-intellectual stance many Churches in the U.S. have taken, and I think it extends way past science, even into doctrine.

For a while, as an undergrad, I had a touch of teh fundies. I identified a particular Church as being comprised of people who took Christianity very seriously. Being interested in trying to understand, I read as much of their material as I could (KJV-only, YEC, Premillenialism, mild-Dispensationalism, etc.). In my Junior year, my Intervarsity staff worker introduced me to theology, which really excited me because it opened up a world of language and doctrine that allowed me to explore God. At some point, the two directions I was exploring (Fundamentalism and Orthodox Theology) came into conflict and I chose theology.

In reading Bonhoeffer, the idea of the Church as the presence of Christ on Earth impressed itself upon me. I was especially moved by his teaching that just as Christ interposed his body between the oppressor and the oppressed, thereby providing relief to the oppressed, so it is the role of the Church to do this. I have been considering this in application to oppressed people groups where there is no Church, as of yet, especially in poor, rural places with minority groups.

Given other statements that you've made about Rochester, is your friend the RPO?

what has been your happiest memory you've acquired to date?

Maybe playing Axis and Allies all night at a friend's house with a bunch of friends when I was in Singapore. Good times.

is it a one man orchestra?

No. It's a full orchestra. It's just that most of them come from Buffalo.

do you often ask people their own questions back in their FTB threads?

Just once.

I'm going to go on a little "vacation," again. I have to crunch to finish up my thesis, and that will probably take about a month if I really focus. Take care, all. I'll see you when I'm done (or when I'm basically done). :)

Good luck.

Heh. Do you realize this is basically an open invitation for us to start recruiting all the other users on CF to come to thread and start posting questions? And that it could very well be our stated goal of having this thread split at least once before you return to start answering questions again?
