our culture has hd a lot of spanish influence... 300 yrs under their rule I think - if im right then it means I actually picked sumthing up in class... if im wrong forgot I ever said that...

my late grandma was very fluent in spanish (from bicol, that province I was talking about) ... the spaniards shaped out culture a lot... so did d americans and the malays and indos at some point b4 d spaniards came... so yeh u cn c a lot of cultures... kinda makes me wonder how unique our culture wud be if we didn't have any influences...

kulay tsokolate
kulay kape...

haha.. seriously- u dont have to use the words berde or asul ... pula maybe coz its a common one... puti as well...itim yeah...

haha ... oh well gudluck..

Isn't kape coffee? and kulay color? so I'm literally saying color of coffee? Well I still haven't gotten the expressions yet.

Well that one link probably taught me more in 5 minutes than my 2 months of rosetta stone. I haven't even read it all yet.

Well it is still a long whiles away so I haven't decided on that. I am still working on my AA in religion and I'll be working on my bachelors after that. I am guessing missions group maybe. I wish to learn the language so I am not just a blank face handing out food or whatever, but I can actually communicate with someone. I think I have to be careful if I try the missions trip. I actually help and not be a apart of some BS mission trip that is more like a vacation in the guise of helping people. I'm prior military and in october I finally get my first VA check. which should be enough to make me self sustainable. $1300 a month can go a long way over there. Lately I've been deciding on whether I should just finish my AA and go then or finish my bachelors. depends on how fast I pick up the language I guess.

I wish I knew more of the language but my ex didn't want to teach me.[thought I was going to talk to other girls. lol kept accusing me all the time]
I only picked up maganda, mahal kita, and the one she hated the most.. baliw ka.

well gudluck on ur journey- state of he country isn't very gud ryt now... prices keep going up...
word of advice- beware of using taxis in manila... they r going to twist u around the city and suck ur wallet dry :)

Oh I am well aware of the people loving to suck foreign money dry. I used to have her purchase stuff with me out of view if it was a small side shop. The only place I felt safe from that was any store in those SM malls.

haha... looks like u nd u ex hd a tough beakup.... wondered y u called her baliw...
personaly I dont like shoping in sm- their items r too xpensve. I cud buy a 1000peso bg @ 100 at the black mrket....

Yeah seriously, 500 pesos for a towel? thats like 10 bucks for a towel! I can't remember the name of the store, but to me it was like the filipino equivalent of JC Penny or Sears, probably more like Macy's. For some reason name brand suff in that country is always like 10% more expensive than it is here. I was there last in 2010 and I recall seeing Playstation 3's for around $550 when they were $500 at the time in the us.

I still have no idea what is good for price or not over there. I always did math in my head "well this equals such-n-such in US money.. thats sounds cheap"

I do enjoy that one link you posted it has helped a lot for understanding..not so much pronunciation as I am at the "milestone" second of part 2 and I cannot get past the half way point because I cannot pronounce ikinagagalak! I was literally on the same section for about 15-20 minutes trying to pronounce the word.

I bought the towel for me, because I forgot to pack one. I was pretty mad because I packed so much extra stuff but forgot a towel. I usually always pack my towel when I go somewhere.

Lol I'm not asking for pronunciation help, just venting that the language is harder to enunciate than I thought. I cannot roll R sounds to save my life either. never have, never will. there isn't nothing you can do to help that part. I just got to figure it out through slow and consistent repetition.

Hi; is Tagalog your first language?

It's kind of related to Malay, isn't it?

My ex used to be a english teacher, but I can't really ask her for help anymore. lol

I guess I can start making more frequent trips to the closest filipino food restaurant, the only reason I've been avoiding it so far is that its pretty much a hole in the wall place, and about an hour and a half drive.

There is a huge Philipino community here, anyway. Not sure all would speak Tagalog. Maybe some Ilocano.

If you look at the website for Immigration and Nationality Canada (type in a search engine) you'll see about the regulations for immigration.

Do you have a Tagalog Bible? this is a good way to improve one's knowledge of a language.
