Not the lyric content - the musical style. Just like the muscle cars songs like "GTO" and "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" were about cars but are still classified as Surf music.

What about Summer Holiday by Cliff Richard.

Never heard it. We got very little of Cliff Richard played here in the US.

Cars were part of the surf scene. Woodies in particular. That and as you pointed out most of the car songs were by surf groups.

I really like Dick Dale. His music is both surfing and hot-rod centered. I saw him live in concert, and there sure is a reason that he's call "the king of guitar". He's really talented. I especially love his tune "Nitro". Cool stuff.
