Does anyone know of any good surf bands/songs?? I guess I am starting to get sort of the surfer mindset as I plan to learn how to surf eventually......Not that when I DO surf, Ill take a walkman with me...Now Im just rambling LOL...

Ummm....the Beach Boys?


I saw Edwin in concert(from I Mother Earth) a couple of years ago. He's got some good California surf type songs. Also check out Better than Ezra. They're awesome.

if you want to get into surf music that's really awesome, get some jack johnson.

Brushfire Fairytales is my favorite of his cd's, although a new one comes out on march 1st.

jack is a pro surfer, and he's a great musician. he went on tour with ben harper. and actually, ben harper plays slide guitar on jack's song "flake" (from Brushfire Fairytales)

seriously, buy that record. you won't regret it.

Bryce took my suggestion. Seriously Danie, you will love him. I haven't met anyone who didn't like Brushfire Fairytales. It's a great album

I love to watch T/F dragsters and many times after a burnout the crackling sound of 8,000 hp slowly backing up brings that song to mind.

Jesus LOVES the original and the best surf band: The Surfaris.

Not so sure they were the "original" surf band; but the best surf music was from the late 50s and thru the 60s. My favorite band was the Ventures. Their drummer "invented" the surf drum beat with alternating 1 and 2 snare hit.

Of course other great bands were the Chantays, Jan and Dean (who actually collaborated with Beach Boys on one hit song) and the guitarists who started the sound were Dick Dale and Duane Eddy.

And I believe the original lead guitarist from Iron Butterfly Danny Weis was a surfer guitarist prior to linking up with Doug Ingle.

Didn't even know how to swim. In fact the ONLY one of the original Beach Boys (brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson and cousin Mike Love) to swim and surf was Carl. He drowned in 1998.

In listening to this again, it really is not Surf music which is from the US west coast; but its east coast counterpart "Beach Music."

Other well known Beach music tunes include "My Girl" by the Temptations, (I'm a) Girl Watcher by the O'Kaysions, and Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett.

yes, Bette Midler starred in the movie 'beaches' with Barbara Hershey.
That was the theme song, along with 'wind beneath my wings'. And yes, the beach in the movie was on the eastern coast of USA.
