  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Superiority Complex.

It's strange the way you guys believe that the inclusion of multiple levels of consciousness, higher dimensions of reality, the projection of mind into a material frequency, the manipulation of energy states, the transmutation of the physical, the perception of thought as real as a solid object, its influence and its practical application, love, patience, all things which we label as "spiritual", things we have not yet grasped, is behind you. The illusion of course, is because it originated at the beginning it is behind you. An illusion supplemented by the manner of man which you believe existed in the distant past.

But origins based on a single dimension is less complex than that based on multiple states. When you go from a square to a cube, it gets more difficult to grasp, more complex, not less. Your ability to be an atheist is because of that source. Your ability to ask for it is because of that source. To overlook, and begin from the center is gap which is already filled by your belief on origin. And every subsequent thought is then molded in accordance to that tenet.

You believe that the mind or consciousness can only be a product of a finite plane. There is a mind which is of this dimension and thusly tied to it. That is the finite mind. The infinite plane, is not immune to consciousness. In fact, mind is a fact of reality as a whole. It is not bound to the finite plane neither are the conditions of same the prerequisite for consciousness to exist. What you see here, or your ability to see and assess, is not yours. It is everywhere, including the eternal state and plane from which the finite emerged. In the infinite, you have what always was, mind being a part and parcel of that state, not a late outgrowth which can only be generated by the conditions of space time.

"Jesus said, "If they say to you, 'Where have you come from?' say to them, 'We have come from the light, from the place where the light came into being by itself, established [itself], and appeared in their image.'

If they say to you, 'Is it you?' say, 'We are its children, and we are the chosen of the living Father.'

If they ask you, 'What is the evidence of your Father in you?' say to them, 'It is motion and rest.'"
Are you saying that your God is only as good as your imagination?

Half of your supernatural examples can be explained by our brains. I assume you know that the brain controls our perceptions, thoughts, essentially our whole reality. I'm not a neuroscientist, so I'm not even going to attempt to explain how our brains work. However, I will pose a question to you. Why should we look outside the material world for an explanation if we can find one within the material world? It only seems reasonable to search the scene of the crime before wandering into the neighboring buildings.

I could almost swear you were about to offer me the red pill or the blue pill.

I have a quick question for you my brother, why would an average Atheist ever want to convert?
a troubled and depressed Atheist I can understand but an Atheist without problems, never.

The attempt to fit the oversoul into the role you perceive is based on your belief. The role actually starts at the beginning and its inclusion in existence, the assessment of reality is based on that point, origin, not from the 25 of July 2010 and on. It is not a corollary of a specific need, not picked up and dropped because of a particular situation, but the reason you can and cannot have that need, the reason you can pick up and drop. An atheist with or without problems did not create himself.

The brain produces electrical signals to give you feedback on reality. It is the seat of the finite mind. Mind as a whole, is not dependent on such. You assume that consciousness can only be generated in the finite. You assume that it originated in the temporal. This is an assumption based on what you believe to be true. On where you believe you came from. And has to fit.

The crime scene contains a computer, a television, a patio, a couch, a garage. You are free to surmise how each made themselves.

Let's be fair, we do sort of create ourselves. Our DNA from our parents is the blueprint, but all we need is two cells, nine months, and a healthy womb to transform into a baby. No one is consciously putting us together. Computers, televisions, patios, couches, and garages are all inorganic. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Or, how about your crime scene contains one omnipotent, omniscient God? Surmise how he created himself.

You give me grief for assuming that everything exists within the material realm, but don't you yourself deserve some skepticism for basing your beliefs on pure speculation of another possible level of existence?

The closest we have to this is a car factory. Though it is automated at reproducing cars, it still requires human intervention. Maybe one day we will reach the level observed in the human system.

Computers, televisions, patios, couches, and garages are all inorganic. You are comparing apples to oranges.
And here we go again.

Surmise how he created himself.

I'm not giving you grief. Origin is at the very beginning. The evidence gathered is just. You are free to believe whatever you like.

So you think that all Atheists have problems because they can not see why anyone would believe in something that was not there?
MY BROTHER,

My point is that any human being without at least one problem is a contradiction in terms, the primary problem we all have in common being, "THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE, FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD" (Romans 3:23)

So this inherent sinfulness is THE existential for all of us--Believers and non-believers alike. However God, in His Grace, Mercy, and Love, solved our PROBLEM with His glorious and all-impacting gift, as that most wonderous of all Scriptures explains:

"FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. FOR GOD DID NOT SEND HIS SON INTO THE WORLD TO CONDEMN THE WORLD, BUT TO SAVE THE WORLD THROUGH HIM. WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM IS NOT CONDEMNED, BUT WHOEVER DOES NOT BELIEVE STANDS CONDEMNED ALREADY BECAUSE HE HAS NOT BELIEVED IN THE NAME OF GOD'S ONE AND ONLY SON." (John 3:16-18)

However, atheists, having turned their backs on God and, in effect, spit on His Gift, and therefore have an additional problem which, unfortunately, is insurmountable and CANNOT be solved by God, no matter how great His Love and Compassion for His children may be:

"THIS IS THE VERDICT: LIGHT HAS COME INTO THE WORLD, BUT MEN LOVED DARKNESS INSTEAD OF LIGHT BECAUSE THEIR DEEDS WERE EVIL. EVERYONE WHO DOES EVIL HATES THE LIGHT, AND WILL NOT COME INTO THE LIGHT FOR FEAR THAT HIS DEEDS WILL BE EXPOSED." (John 3:19-20)

I fear that's just wishful thinking on your part.
Wishful thinking! Good Lord no! Eternal separation from God's Light and Love is the last thing anyone should wish on one of their brothers or sisters. Wishful thinking engenders the opposite--that all atheists might come to their senses, turn from the darkness into the Light, and allow Abba to heal them. As Scripture states, "THERE WILL BE MORE REJOICING IN HEAVEN OVER ONE SINNER WHO REPENTS THAN OVER NINETY-NINE RIGHTEOUS PERSONS WHO DO NOT NEED TO REPENT." (Luke 15:10) or, as the Parable of the Lost Son puts it, " 'LET'S HAVE A FEAST AND CELEBRATE. FOR THIS SON OF MINE WAS DEAD AND IS ALIVE AGAIN; HE WAS LOST AND IS FOUND.' "

So, going back to the original OP, i would have to state that the hubris and "superiority complex"--as in "I don't need all that God silliness, I am doing fine on my own. No problemo!--is the mask worn by atheists who refuse to bend their knee before the One Who created them, not the Christians who are praying that they will.

And sentences like this do not smack of hubris to you?

That's quite a high horse you're mounting yourself on, right there.
MY DEAR SISTER,

Why is speaking God's Truth considered hubristic? The only reason atheists aver that one who states the Truth is "proud" and "arrogant" is that in our warped, twisted, godless, and atheist-influenced society, there is commonly held to be NO absolute Truths--all "truth" is relative and pertains or not as each individual wishes. To these Scripture speaks, "WOE TO THOSE WHO ARE WISE IN THEIR OWN EYES AND CLEVER IN THEIR OWN SIGHT." (Isaiah 5:21)

The bad/sad news, my beloved, is that there is ULTIMATE TRUTH--in and from God--and those who speak it do so in great humbleness of heart coupled with fear and awe over the responsibility entailed in holding out God's Light in the midst of darkness.

Hubris and high horses are the purview of sarcastic scoffers, not those performing a God-given duty.

i don't even own a horse--i crawl most of the time.

Well, no. That isn't the problem. The problem is that you are a human being with human judgment. You are claiming personal omniscience and infallibility. That is what is arrogant.

For starters, Hitler was Catholic. His rational for war or discrimination against Jews had nothing to do with science. Did I miss the part where science proved that Jews were inferior to the Nazis? They may have claimed this, but I think we should know now that any "science" that backed up their discrimination was bull****.
MY BROTHER,

You really MUST do your own homework and not get your misinformation off the Web from Sites with atheist agendas.

Hitler was a pagan and held all Christian religion in contempt. Examples?:

"German priests and pastors were exiled to Dachau for preaching love of neighbor, for insisting that Jesus was a Jew, for warning S.S. men that they could not abjure their faith to achieve promotion, for offering requiem Masses even for relatives of Communists." (The Priests of Dachau/William O'Malley)

"It is through the peasantry that we shall really be able to destroy Christianity because there is in them a true religion rooted in nature and blood. One is either a Christian or a German. You can't be both." (1933 speech)

"Do you really believe the masses will ever be Christian again? Nonsense. Never again. The tale is finished . . . but we can hasten matters. The parsons will be made to dig their own graves just as Polish priests are doing."(1933 ibid)

"When the Reich minister for church affairs, Hanns Kerrl, died in 1941, Hitler remarked that "Kerrl, with the noblest of intentions, wanted to attempt a synthesis between National Socialism and Christianity. I do not believe this is possible, and I see the obstacle in Christianity itself. . . . Pure Christianity--the Christianity of the catacombs--is concerned with translating the Christian doctrine into fact. It leads simply to the annihilation of mankind. It is merely wholehearted Bolshevism, under a tinsel of metaphysics." (Remark to reporter in 1941)

"The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Bolshevism is Christianity's illegitimate child. Both are inventions of the Jew." (Hitler's Table Talk)

Honesty and accuracy, my brother, are important.

I do have one small problemo, to which God should I bend my knee? tell me honestly which God I should choose and why that particular God?

One more time...Atheists do not reject Gods they just don't believe in or think about any of them, period,
the person who is not a stamp collector, does he tell people that he does not collect stamps or does he just not think about stamp collecting? is he called a non-stamp collector?

I don't think atheists prefer to be identified in terms of an entity they don't care about.

You imagine Faith to be a struggle to believe something. It's not.

This is correct. I have no need to struggle to believe myself to be who I am. It is easy. And my faith is part of who I am; it is not an optional extra, that I put on like a pair of gloves. :)

What then is faith when substance and evidence lead a person towards the conclusion that there probably is no god?

I said this some time ago, but it probably bears repeating here.

Anyone who believes does so because God has first of all called him or her by name. Our belief is by the grace of God, and our faith is by the grace of God; we do not effect it for ourselves.

Anyone who has not yet found the evidence they need to believe is not to blame for that, imo, because I also would not believe, if I had not seen the evidence that I need to see. For some reason best known to himself, God made this clear to me at an important moment, and I have trusted him ever since.

A lot of Christians may huff and puff about people believing, as if it is a choice, but in my view it is not a choice. Non believers can no more choose to believe what they do not see, than I can choose not to believe what I do. The challenge, in both cases, is to accept the other person's point of view as valid, and refrain from comments about moral weakness, which frankly say more about the person making the comment than they do about having faith in God.

I think there's a better and probably more complex answer than God out there, even though we may never find it.

Funnily enough, I agree. The better and more complex answer is God, but not as we understand him to be.

He is far more loving, and far less genocidal, for a start. :)

I have never had a problem allowing other people to be who they are. If God wants to draw you to himself one fine day, he is quite capable of sorting that for himself, without me huffing and puffing about it. And if he doesn't, then that can't be your responsibility, can it?

Therefore, peace be with you. :)

eudaimonia,

MY BROTHER,

i am/we are nothing more or less than a parrot repeating what God has said. Somehow i just can't picture a parrot being arrogant about doing that. My/our "human judgement" has nothing to do with the process of parroting God's word--one just listens and repeats. Where does this leave room for me--or any other Christian--to claim personal omniscience and/or infallibility? We relay God's Word PERIOD.

Again, atheists' beef is with the concept of the existence of Ultimate, Overarching, Binding Truth when they would much rather make up their own arbitrarily as they go along, based on their personal petty biases, needs, dispositions, and desires. Bad news--ain't gonna fly!
