  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Unlike some people, I don't adjust my movie viewing expeditions over watching trailers, and reading reviews.

I don't watch trailers, and I rarely look too hardly into the rating. If I see it's R, fine, if I see it's G, great, but generally they don't have that listed at the box office, or at least Regal Cinemas. The few things I did see didn't look bad, it looked funny.
I'm with the others on this one. There are plenty of sites out there (such as IMDB.com) that give the content of a movie. You have no room to complain about the content of a movie if you don't do the research about it before you watch it and avoid the ones which content you don't agree with.

So rather than starting "OMGOOSES DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIEEEEEE!!!!" threads everytime you see a movie you don't agree with or like the content to, you should read up on the movie and not see it if the content contains things you don't like.

I saw it and I liked it. I like Michael Cera and I'd probably see just about anything he's in but also the parts with the cops were very funny. Lots of crude humor so if that offends you I'd suggest you don't see it. If not, go see it, it's funny!

Got free tickets with the husband (my wonderful husband got them actually) and we went to see this, THINKING, it was supposed to be about nerds...it was not. It was foul and disgusting. The very first things it talks about are minors subscribing to porn sites!

Go to www.pluggedinonline.com next time. They have in-depth reviews of every movie that's in theaters, with a breakdown of objectionable content.

If you like quite possibly every slang, vulgarity for the human anatomy, underage drinking, and drunken fights, this is the movie for you.

I will admit, there were funny scenes, but sitting through this due to the fact you already paid may make you throw up...do NOT take grandma to see this!

I could tell from teh commercials it wasn't about nerds. It was about nerds trying to get laid before school ended forever, OR something like that. Either way I knew it would have vulgarities.

Lots of people in this site seem to go into the theater not knowing what they're getting into. It's pretty obvious from the trailer and the rating what this film is going to be like.

Rated R for pervasive crude and sexual content, strong language, drinking, some drug use and a fantasy/comic violent image - all involving teens.

Do you even read the rating?

Anyways, this one looks hilarious and I cannot wait to see it, hopefully this weekend.

It's well worth it and completely deserving of the association with Apatow.

40 Year Old Virgin has Steve Carrell, therefore it is amazing. I haven't seen Knocked Up, and I do know I am not personally too interested in it.

Why does Carrell's involvement automatically make the film a masterpiece?

Superbad was funnier than Virgin or Knocked Up (both of which were brilliant).

And BTW Borat was the worst piece of trash it has been my displeasure to know.

You either didn't get it or it just offended your "christian" sensebilities.

Minors subscribing to porn sites? I think that should be NC-17. I bet in the early 1990s, that scene could get the movie an NC-17 rating.

You don't see them doing it, they just talk about it, they were discussing which ones they were going to subscribe to when they turned 18.

I agree with TerraSin.
It's not that I am easily offended, nor that sexual humor is something I don't like, but... I saw a preview of a portion of the movie as well; it was a huge portion all about how this kid used to draw pictures of dicks when he was younger and he got caught, and his religious teachers thought he was possessed by satan or something and he was taken to psychologists for it... I can relate to that, I went to a Christian school and the principal actually thought I was a witch, and told my father so, right in front of me. I think that would be the most "offensive" to hard-core christians in here, who don't like their religion ridiculed... unfortunately, this DOES happen, and yes, it is ridiculous and should be ridiculed (the actions of the teacher, not Christianity itself, of course); however, I, personally, didn't realize the ENTIRE movie was going to be a huge sex joke about kids in high school. At least American Pie (based on a similar plot, wanting to get laid before school is out) had some substance to it as well. I guess I liked the other movie because it had... more substance. The 40 Year Old Virgin was about meeting your one true love and not being afraid of things like sex. It was not just one large sexual joke. I have nothing against stupid movies like this, but Superbad IS, in my opinion -- and that's just an opinion -- STUPID. And it made me feel kind of icky to be thinking about some little kid who's thinking and talking about sex. They're not even adults yet, and they're barely old enough to be done with action figures. Ick.

O.O I don't know what kind of kids you were around but I think 17 is pretty far out of the action figure age, not barely.

Right! I have no plans to watch it either! According to previews and trailers of this movie-it sounds like the nerdy protagonists in the movie are potential womanizers and I am surprised this movie did not get bad reviews from Roeper (and many others). I am surprised it was even that popular! :o
