Here's how it goes. I'm afraid that rock music is sinful. I like to listen to it and I've been asking the Lord to show me what's right. I still feel guilty about it though. So I wonder if the guilt is from Him and this whole time I'm trying to justify my sin of listening to it.

1. listening to rock music (apart from sexual stimulation and/or 'lust')

2. sexual stimulation and/or 'lust' (apart from listening to rock music)

which one of these might be more of a core issue for a person (whether yourself or anyone else)?

Well, one of the reasons people claim rock music is sinful is because of the supposed sexual stimulation it causes.

one does not require the presence of rock music to cause sexual stimulation; i suggest that sexual stimulation arises from elsewhere, whether rock music is present or not; in fact, ancient people used to get sexually stimulated prior to the invention of rock music

and what about jazz or classical music? can they affect sexual stimulation? can a violin, for example, arouse sexual stimulation? lets say at a french restaurant?

Yes, but if the music is moving one toward lust then it's sinful.

But the only reason something is sinful for some people is because they're not doing it in faith. Playing cards is either sinful or it's not, regardless of what people feel. It's whether or not they're doing it in faith which makes the difference.

Yes, sin is missing the mark.

im not quite understanding what an anapestic beat is, but i get the impression that any type of music can have it, and that rock music doesnt necessarily always have it; maybe im missing it or maybe not; but since i dont really know what it is in the first place, im not connecting sexuality to it; i looked at some internet articles to try to figure it out, but id probably have to hear it directly versus just read about it; im sure ive heard it before, but never identified it with a musical term

It's the famous duh duh DUH beat. We Will Rock You is a good example.

If they're true - which they ain't frankly. They usually come out of the same places as tell you it's wrong to date inter-racially.

You're discerning enough to see there's bad mixed in with the good, but lack enough self-confidence to enjoy the good while rejecting the bad.
I think the bad is more in the lyrics than in the beat.
It would have at least partly to do with the mental associations you accept. If you accept that a beat is sinful, it would be a violation of your conscience to indulge, yes?

Yes. I can't say that the beat is wrong though. Even some praise songs have that beat.

Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon says that the Koine Greek word translates- animal nature, guided by our animal instincts and desires.

Many of us enjoy watching sporting events. This is serving our animal nature. No question about it.

It seems that only one's animalistic sexual appetite becomes whetted by (for instance) a certain music, that they label that music as sinful. No matter if many can and do listen to it without becoming sexually aroused.

So what people have done to control the animal nature is to create community standards. Like what is defined as obscene (the extreme arousal of the sexual nature) in one community may not be classified as such in the other.

Perhaps enjoying life is just learning to satisfying a small portion of this nature each day, without allowing the rest to come out full force and overtake us.
